IKEA Canada sells the DVALA sheet set in white Queen for $39.99 on ikea.com/ca/en, priced in Canadian dollars, under article number 705.775.31. The set is 100% cotton at 152 threads per square inch and holds one flat sheet, one fitted sheet with elastic all the way around, and two pillowcases. The price is easy to judge. The number that decides whether the set stays on your bed is further down the measurements table: a maximum mattress thickness of 25 cm.
Everything below comes from IKEA's Canadian pages: the Queen listing with its care label and Good to know notes, the Twin, Full/Double and King listings for sizes and prices, the packaging weights, the customer reviews shown on the page, and the return policy. Where IKEA's figures disagree with each other, both are quoted so you can settle it with a tape measure.
Our verdict
A plain 100% cotton Queen set at $39.99 with one hard constraint: the fitted sheet is rated for mattresses up to 25 cm (10 in). On a thicker mattress the set is the wrong shape, whatever the fabric feels like.
- A good fit for
- Thin mattresses, guest rooms, camper bunks and sleeper sofas, and anyone who wants plain cotton with a published thread count and a care label that allows a very hot wash.
- We would skip it if
- Your mattress is thicker than 25 cm, you want a dense or silky weave, or you plan to wash the set before deciding, since IKEA refunds products with traces of use on a refund card, not to your card.
Reasons to consider it
- 100% cotton with a published thread count (152 per square inch, 60 per square centimetre) instead of a vague fabric name
- Care label allows a very hot machine wash and a medium tumble dry, with shrinkage capped at 4% by IKEA
- The 229 x 264 cm flat sheet leaves about 38 cm per side to tuck on a 152 cm wide Queen mattress
The compromises
- Fitted sheet is rated for mattresses up to 25 cm (10 in), which rules out thicker mattresses
- 152 threads per square inch is a light weave; the listing's reviewers split between soft and scratchy
- Reviewers on the listing report thinness, roughness and fit problems alongside praise for softness, so the fabric is a gamble for the bed you sleep in nightly
What we have not verified: IKEA's own page gives the fitted-sheet depth as 25 cm in the care text and measurements table, 26 cm in a photo caption, and 10 inches in the table. How far the elastic stretches past those figures is unknown, as is whether the fabric softens the way IKEA says it does.
The things in this guide
A closer look at the products, who they may suit, and what to check before buying.

DVALA Sheet Set, Queen (705.775.31)
At $39.99 you get all-cotton fabric, a published 152 thread count, a flat sheet wide enough to tuck, and a care label that tolerates a very hot wash. On a thin mattress, a guest bed or a camper bunk, the fitted-sheet depth limit stops being a defect, because the elastic has less slack to fight.
Before you buy: IKEA rates the fitted sheet for mattresses up to 25 cm (10 in). One reviewer on the Canadian listing returned the set because it would not fit a thicker mattress, and another says it does not fit a standard Queen.

The Queen DVALA set is one flat sheet at 229 x 264 cm (90 x 104 in), one fitted sheet at 152 x 202 cm (60 x 80 in) and two pillowcases at 51 x 76 cm (20 x 30 in), all under article number 705.775.31. The flat sheet is the dimension to notice: 229 cm across a 152 cm mattress leaves roughly 38 cm per side for tucking, enough for anyone who tucks a top sheet or shares a bed with someone who pulls it. The pillowcases are Queen size, so a King pillow will not fit; IKEA's King set ships with 51 x 91 cm cases instead.
IKEA prices the set by size on its Canadian pages: Twin $29.99, Full/Double $34.99, Queen $39.99 and King $44.99, each with an in-stock offer in the page data on the day of checking. Size names match the usual Canadian bed sizes, and the Queen fitted sheet is 152 x 202 cm. White sits beside beige, blue, grey, grey-green and pink on the same listing. The packed Queen set weighs 1.80 kg. Anyone furnishing several beds can price the whole job from one page.
152 threads per square inch of cotton: what that number means
IKEA states the fabric as 100% cotton at 60 threads per square centimetre, which it also writes as 152 threads per square inch, and its Good to know note explains that a higher count means a more densely woven fabric. That puts DVALA at the light end of plain-weave cotton: expect a thin, airy sheet instead of a heavy or slick one. Hot sleepers and people who dislike the drape of sateen tend to like that kind of weave. The cost of a low count is less fabric between you and any roughness in the yarn.
IKEA says the cotton gets softer with every wash, and the reviews on its Canadian page are the only public evidence either way. Some buyers call the set soft and say it washed without shrinking; others describe it as scratchy, thin or very wrinkly after the dryer, and one reports holes after about four months of regular use. For a spare room, a rough first impression costs little. For the bed you sleep in every night, the split matters, because the softening claim is IKEA's statement and not a promise of how your set will feel.
The fitted sheet and the 25 cm question
IKEA's care text says the fitted sheet fits mattresses up to 25 cm thick because the elastic runs all the way around, the measurements table lists the same 25 cm (10 in), and a photo caption on the listing says 26 cm. Those figures sit within a centimetre of each other, so the practical ceiling is about 10 inches. Thin foam mattresses, sofa beds, camper bunks and older innerspring units fall inside it. Measure the mattress edge before ordering, because IKEA does not say how far past 25 cm the elastic will stretch before the corners pop.
The reviews on the page show what ignoring the number costs. One buyer titled a review Won't Fit My Mattress and was heading back to IKEA to return the set; another says the weave is loose and the sheet does not fit a standard Queen mattress. On the other side, a buyer who bought the set twice says it fits well and does not bunch up in the night, and a French-language reviewer calls the dimensions exact for a Queen bed. Elastic strength can vary from set to set, so trust the 25 cm rating over any single review.
Care label: very hot wash, 4% shrinkage, medium dry
The Canadian care label reads: machine wash very hot on a normal cycle, do not bleach, tumble dry medium on a normal cycle, iron high, do not dry clean, shrinkage maximum 4%. IKEA's Canadian page does not give a wash temperature in degrees, so the label is quoted as written. A very hot wash suits cotton and is a fair reason to pick it for a bed that is laundered often. The do-not-bleach line removes the easy fix for a white sheet that greys, and one buyer notes the grey set arrived with bleach marks.
Four percent is the number to run before assuming the fitted sheet will keep fitting: 4% of 202 cm is about 8 cm of length, and 4% of the 25 cm depth is 1 cm. On a mattress that already sits at the ceiling, the first very hot wash can turn a marginal fit into a bad one, so check the fit on the mattress before the first wash. Treat 4% as the worst case IKEA allows, not the typical result; one reviewer reports no shrinkage at all. IKEA also lists the set as flammability tested to EN ISO 12952-1 and CAN/CGSB 4.2 No 27.5, and as suitable for small hotels, inns and B&Bs.
Returns, and when to skip the DVALA set
IKEA Canada takes back new and unopened products within 365 days with proof of purchase for a full refund to the original payment method. Opened products come back within 90 days if they are unused and re-saleable at IKEA's discretion, and a product showing traces of use is refunded on an IKEA refund card. The page does not mention washed bedding. A set that has been slept on and laundered is hard to call unused, so check the fit on the mattress before the first wash if you want the cash refund.
Skip the set if the mattress is thicker than 25 cm, if you want a dense or silky sheet, or if you need to rely on the softening-with-washing claim for the bed you sleep in every night. The listing's critical reviews centre on thinness, scratchiness and fit. Buy it at $39.99 for a thin mattress, a guest bed or a camper bunk, or for cotton that tolerates a very hot wash. Deeper mattresses call for a deep-pocket set from any maker.
