The LAGAN over-the-range microwave is what IKEA sells for the cabinet above a stove when budget is the constraint: a 76 cm wide box that heats at 1000 W in a 1.7 cu ft cavity and doubles as a range hood with a two-speed fan rated at 300 CFM. IKEA Canada lists it at $199.00 (Canadian dollars), in white only, as article 505.876.25, in stock for home delivery, with a plug-in cord and a carbon filter for kitchens that have no duct.
The basics are basic: 11 power levels, preset keys for veggies, popcorn, potatoes, snacks and melting, weight or time defrost, a child lock, and a fan that is high, low or off. The part that needs care is the warranty. IKEA's Canadian listing, its warranty page and its Canada kitchen warranty brochure all give appliances six years and name only TILLREDA as shorter. The manual in the box gives five years and says LAGAN gets two. No page says which text a claim is judged under.
Our verdict
At $199 it is the cheapest of IKEA Canada's four over-the-range microwaves, with the same listed power, fan and noise figures as the $399 SKALLEBO. Canadian pages give six years of coverage; the manual in the box says two.
- A good fit for
- A rental or budget kitchen where a microwave and hood must share one 76 cm (30 in) cabinet slot, the stove below sees light cooking, and a 300 CFM fan is enough.
- We would skip it if
- You sear or wok-cook often, want a quiet hood, have no outlet in the cabinet above, or need to know which of IKEA's two warranty texts applies before buying.
Reasons to consider it
- 1000 W with 11 power levels, a two-speed 300 CFM fan, an LED cooktop strip and a carbon filter in the box for $199.00
- Plug-in cord and grease filters IKEA's listing says go in a dishwasher; the 29.12 kg carton sits just under IKEA's 30 kg doorstep-delivery limit per package
- Returns of 365 days unopened and 90 days opened, and six years of limited warranty on IKEA Canada's listing, with its warranty page and brochure giving appliances the same term
The compromises
- 65 dB(A) rated noise, and two of the reviews shown on the page call the cooktop light dim or feeble
- The manual in the box gives LAGAN two years, against six on the listing, the warranty page and the brochure, and no page says which governs
- Needs a separate grounded 120 V, 15 A receptacle inside the cabinet above, a screw into a wall stud, and NYTTIG filler pieces in IKEA cabinets
What we have not verified: Fan performance against 300 CFM, how loud 65 dB(A) feels in a small kitchen and how evenly the turntable heats come from IKEA's figures and posted reviews, not from running the unit. Which coverage term applies to a LAGAN bought in Canada is unresolved: the brochure says six years and is valid in Canada, while the manual's guarantee section covers purchases in the United States or Canada and gives LAGAN two.
The things in this guide

LAGAN Over-the-range Microwave, White, 30 in (505.876.25)
1000 W and 1.7 cu ft with a two-speed 300 CFM fan, an LED cooktop strip, a carbon filter in the box for recirculating installs, a plug-in cord and a $199.00 price.
Before you buy: The fan is rated at 65 dB(A), two posted reviews call the cooktop light dim, and the manual's two-year line for LAGAN contradicts the six years on IKEA Canada's pages.
Price checked October 17, 2026. Retailer prices can change.1000 W in 1.7 cubic feet, and a fan with two speeds
As a microwave the LAGAN is mid-sized: 1.7 cu ft (48 L) measured as the cavity's maximum width, depth and height, which the manual admits overstates the room for food, in a cavity 53.1 cm wide, 37 cm deep and 25.1 cm high. The 1000 W figure is output by the IEC test method from a 1500 W, 13.5 A draw. The panel offers 11 power levels, preset keys for veggies, popcorn, potatoes, snacks and melting, five auto-cook programs, weight or time defrost, a timer and a child lock that engages by holding Stop/Clear for three seconds. Multi-stage cooking lets you queue a defrost and a cook in one go.
As a hood it is a 300 CFM extractor with high, low and off, an LED strip over the cooktop and a carbon filter in the box for a recirculating install; the manual calls for a change every 6 to 12 months. The listing says the grease filters can go in a dishwasher, and the manual asks for them to be cleaned at least monthly. IKEA rates the noise at 65 dB(A). The page shows 11 reviews at 3.1 stars, and two of the reviews it displays call the light dim or feeble, which matters because this unit is the light over the stove.
An outlet in the cabinet above, a screw into a stud, and filler pieces for IKEA cabinets
The unit measures 75.9 cm wide, 38.1 cm deep and 41.6 cm high and weighs 24.04 kg. It ships as one 29.12 kg carton 87 cm long, which is 0.88 kg under the 30 kg per-package limit IKEA sets for doorstep delivery; doorstep delivery starts at $29 for IKEA Family members and $39 for others, and in-home delivery at $49 and $59. The sheet says the unit must be fixed to both the cabinet above and the wall, with at least one screw into a stud, rules out islands and peninsulas, and recommends two installers.
The electrical requirement is the item most likely to derail a Saturday: a separate 120 V, 60 Hz branch circuit ending in a single grounded receptacle inside the cabinet directly above, reached by the 1 m cord, with no extension cord allowed. The installation sheet allows 15 to 20 A and gives 1.6 kW as the product rating, against the manual's 1500 W. A kitchen that has never had an over-the-range unit will need that outlet added by a qualified electrician.
In IKEA cabinets the microwave also needs NYTTIG filler pieces, sold separately: one for the back in SEKTION and one for over-the-range use in ENHET, KNOXHULT or SEKTION. For a ducted install, IKEA's sheet gives a 3 1/4 by 10 in rectangular duct or a 5 in or 6 in round one, with an equivalent run no longer than 140 ft (42.7 m).
Six years on three Canadian pages, two years in the manual
IKEA Canada's listing for the microwave carries a 6 year limited warranty line under Key features, repeats it in the product details and points to the warranty brochure. The warranty page says home appliances come with a free six-year warranty, with the exception of TILLREDA, which gets two. The kitchen brochure, footed Oct 2026 Canada FY27, agrees: six years from the date of purchase, two for TILLREDA, and LAGAN named nowhere in the document.
The manual in the box says otherwise. Its guarantee section on page 35 runs five years from the original purchase date unless the appliance is named LAGAN or TILLREDA, in which case two years apply, and its area-of-validity clause covers appliances bought in the United States or Canada, so it is not a US-only text. No page says which text governs article 505.876.25.
Beyond the length, the terms differ in small ways. The brochure pays factory-specified parts and repair labour for in-home repair, names repair as the only remedy, applies only in Canada and asks for proof of the purchase date; it excludes installation service calls, house wiring, bulbs, filters and cosmetic damage not reported within 7 days. The manual lets IKEA repair or replace and also requires the original receipt.
$199 against IKEA Canada's other over-the-range models, and 90 days once opened
At $199.00 the LAGAN is the cheapest of the four over-the-range microwaves on IKEA Canada's microwave listing. The stainless steel SKALLEBO is $399.00 and lists the same power (1000 W), capacity (1.7 cu ft), fan (300 CFM), noise (65 dB(A)), fuse (15 A) and unit dimensions, so the extra $200.00 shows up on the page as a finish rather than a bigger oven. The 24 in SOLNEBO is $429.00 at 1.4 cu ft, and the YGSBO is $499.00 with 900 W, 1.5 cu ft, 68 dB(A) and a convection mode beside the microwave. All four list the same six-year limited warranty.
IKEA Canada takes back unopened products within 365 days with proof of purchase, refunded to the original payment method, and opened products within 90 days if unused and resaleable, at IKEA's sole discretion. Assembled products with no evidence of use are refunded to the original payment method; products with traces of use go onto an IKEA refund card. A microwave that has been mounted and cooked in sits closer to the second case, and the refund wording does not mention delivery fees.
Skip it if the stove below does real work
A 300 CFM fan that recirculates through a carbon filter is a token hood for a gas range or anyone searing and stir-frying most nights; the manual itself ties that filter to non-vented installs and a swap every 6 to 12 months. A hood ducted outside, with a countertop microwave elsewhere, suits that kitchen better, and the YGSBO's extra $300.00 buys a convection oven, not a stronger fan: it lists the same 300 CFM at a higher 68 dB(A).
Hold back as well if quiet matters, since 65 dB(A) is IKEA's own figure, or if the cabinet above has no outlet and you were hoping to plug into a counter receptacle. And if you want one sentence on coverage, plan on the six years three Canadian pages give, keep the receipt both texts ask for, and ask IKEA customer service (1-866-866-4532 in the brochure) which text applies to article 505.876.25 before ordering.
