In this guide
In Canada the POÄNG armchair in birch veneer with the Knisa light beige cushion is article 493.065.70 and costs $119 in Canadian dollars. It measures 68 cm wide, 82 cm deep and 100 cm tall, with a seat 42 cm off the floor, and ships as a frame and a cushion.
The frame is the durable part: layer-glued birch veneer, clear lacquer, a ten-year limited warranty. The cushion is the weak part: the Knisa care label says do not wash and do not dry clean, and allows only vacuuming and a wipe. That is the decision, not the bend of the wood.
Our verdict
Buy it for a reading corner if the cushion will only ever be vacuumed and wiped. With pets, toddlers or meals in the chair, check another cushion's care label first.
- A good fit for
- A bedroom or reading corner where a light, high-backed chair with some give matters and the light beige cushion stays clean.
- We would skip it if
- Children, pets or food will meet the cushion, you want a rocking chair, or a 42 cm seat height is too low.
Reasons to consider it
- Birch veneer frame under clear lacquer, with a ten-year limited warranty.
- 68 × 82 × 100 cm with a 56 × 50 cm seat, in two packages totalling about 10 kg.
- Frame and cushion have separate article numbers, so the cushion can be replaced alone.
The compromises
- The Knisa care label says do not wash, do not bleach, do not tumble dry, do not iron and do not dry clean.
- Two packages, 8.37 kg for the frame and 1.75 kg for the cushion.
- The seat sits 42 cm off the floor, low for a tall sitter.
What we have not verified: Not tested: how the cushion ages, how the light beige takes marks, and whether 42 cm suits your height. The page gives no assembled weight for the pair.
The things in this guide
A closer look at the products, who they may suit, and what to check before buying.
POÄNG Armchair, birch veneer/Knisa light beige
Birch veneer frame, 68 × 82 × 100 cm, seat at 42 cm, ten-year limited warranty, and the exact Knisa light beige combination.
Before you buy: The cushion cannot be washed or dry cleaned; two packages and a build; low seat.
Price checked October 18, 2026. Retailer prices can change.A frame, a cushion, one price
The combination 493.065.70 is a frame, 813.058.07, plus a cushion, 004.667.44. The frame package weighs 8.37 kg and the cushion 1.75 kg, so the pair arrives as two parcels. IKEA lists a ten-year limited warranty for the chair; the terms are in its limited warranty brochure.
Because the two have separate article numbers, a worn cushion can be replaced without buying a new chair. That is the practical answer to the care label: plan for a replacement cushion, not for a wash.
Birch veneer and ten years
The frame is layer-glued wood veneer with birch veneer and clear lacquer; the fabric that carries the seat and back is polypropylene, at least 30% recycled. The cantilever bends because the veneer gives, not because springs are hidden in the seat.
IKEA gives a ten-year limited warranty on the POÄNG. The Canadian page publishes no user weight limit, but says its testing simulates use by people weighing up to 110 kg. Read that as a test condition, not a rated capacity; the seat height and depth are the fit questions.
The cushion cannot be washed
The Knisa cushion's care block is explicit: do not wash, do not bleach, do not tumble dry, do not iron, do not dry clean. Vacuum it and wipe it with a damp cloth. That is the entire permitted routine.
For a light beige cushion in a household with children, pets or meals, that is the wrong material. A stain that does not lift becomes a replacement cushion. The darker POÄNG covers exist, but check each one's own care block before assuming it can be washed.
Two parcels and a build
The frame arrives as a flat pack of 8.37 kg and the cushion as a second parcel of 1.75 kg; plan for the build.
The frame flexes; it is not a rocking chair. On a hard floor a light chair can creep when you push back, so felt pads or a rug help.
When to skip it
Skip it if the cushion will meet anything a vacuum cannot lift. Skip it if you want a deep, soft armchair or a rocking chair. And skip it if 42 cm is too low for your legs; this is a reading chair.
For a bedroom or a reading corner, with a light cushion kept clean, $119 is a fair price for a birch veneer frame with ten years behind it.
