Cabeau sells a dozen variations on the same U-pillow, and the Evolution S3 is the cheapest one that carries the feature the company built its name on: two straps sewn to the back that wrap around the headrest area of a seat and hold the pillow, and your head, in place. The pillow is memory foam with a thin flat back so it does not shove the neck forward, raised side supports to stop the head rolling, and an adjustable clasp at the front. Cabeau's UK site lists it at £34.99 in Steel, Indigo and Jet Black, with the page showing it in stock.
The rest is standard for the category: a removable, washable cover and a travel case in the box. The question a buyer has to answer is whether the straps are worth £15 over the Classic, and whether the seats they sleep in have anything to strap to. Cabeau's page names plane seats, gaming chairs and theatre seats; it says nothing about the seats where the straps will not work.
Our verdict
A reasonable £34.99 pillow if the straps are why you are buying it, because they anchor the pillow so the head cannot drop forward. Without them, the £19.99 Classic costs £15 less.
- A good fit for
- A flyer who sleeps in economy seats with a headrest the straps can wrap around, and who nods forward instead of sideways.
- We would skip it if
- You mostly sleep on trains, coaches or bulkhead seats with no reachable headrest, you run hot in memory foam, or you only want a plain U-pillow.
Reasons to consider it
- Two seat straps anchor the pillow so the head cannot drop forward, the weak point of every plain U-pillow
- Flat back and raised side supports keep the neck from being pushed forward by the seat
- Removable washable cover, adjustable front clasp and a travel case in the box
The compromises
- Cabeau's UK page lists no weight, dimensions or foam density, and the straps only matter on seats with a headrest you can reach behind
- The UK store is Cabeau Inc. in California: Cabeau's return page makes international customers responsible for local taxes, duties and shipping fees, and customs charges fall on the buyer
- The lifetime replacement benefit requires Cabeau Club registration within 30 days of purchase; the base warranty is one year with a US$10 fee plus shipping per replacement
What we have not verified: Foam firmness, heat build-up, how the straps sit on a slick leather headrest and how small the case packs the pillow are unassessed. The UK page does not say whether customs charges are included in £34.99 or how long delivery takes.

A plain U-pillow fails in one predictable way: the head slides forward off the front opening, the airway narrows, and you jerk awake. Cabeau's answer is a pair of straps on the back of the pillow that wrap around the headrest area, so the pillow is held to the seat and the head is held to the pillow. Combined with the front clasp that closes the U under the chin, the head has nowhere to fall. Cabeau sells the same idea as a £20.00 accessory, the Head Hold S3, which says plenty about how central the company thinks it is.
The mechanism has an obvious precondition: a headrest with a gap or a wing you can pass a strap behind. Many economy seats qualify; solid-shell seats, a lot of coach and train seats and any bulkhead wall may not, and Cabeau's page lists only plane seats, gaming chairs and theatre seats as targets. If the straps would mostly hang loose, the £19.99 Classic is the same collar idea without them.
Flat back, raised sides, and a clasp that does the adjusting
The foam is shaped, not simply cut from a block. Cabeau describes a thin flat back so the pillow does not wedge between skull and seat, raised side supports to block sideways roll, and an adjustable clasp at the front that sets how tight the collar sits. The cover is removable and washable, and a travel case comes with it.
What the UK page does not publish for the S3 is any number: no weight, no width or height, no foam density and no cover composition. The one sizing claim is that the travel case compacts the pillow to a third of its size, with a warning not to leave it compacted for more than a month. Cabeau's range includes The Neck's Evolution S3 at £50.00, a redesigned collar with an open front that the company says lets heat escape; a slimmer Slim TNE S3 Deluxe at £46.00 was unavailable when the collection was read. Both hint that the standard S3 is a full collar and that some necks want less of it.
One year by default, lifetime if you register in time
Cabeau's standard cover runs one year from the purchase date for damage present at purchase or defects in materials or workmanship. The remedy is a replacement part, a replacement pillow, or a product of equal value if the style is gone, and each replacement carries a US$10 handling fee plus shipping, with any customs or tariffs on you. A claim goes by email with a photo of the defect, proof of purchase and a photo of the white care label sewn into the back zipper seam.
The lifetime cover advertised next to the price is a Cabeau Club benefit: register each pillow within 30 days of purchase and you can replace one product per year. Cabeau's UK return page allows a full refund on unused product within 30 days of purchase, while saying international customers are responsible for local taxes, duties and shipping fees. The shipping page says non-US orders usually leave from warehouses outside the US but may be split or revert to US dispatch, and it guarantees no delivery date.
£35 in the middle of Cabeau's own range
Within Cabeau's UK range the S3 at £34.99 sits £15 above the strapless Evolution Classic at £19.99 and £15 below The Neck's Evolution S3 at £50.00. The Classic's page shows £29.99 struck through with no end date, so the comparison here runs from the £19.99 it is listed at. Buying the Classic and the £20.00 Head Hold S3 separately comes to £39.99, which is £5 more than the S3 on its own, though the Head Hold page describes it as working with any travel pillow and not only the Classic, and it showed as out of stock when read.
Against a generic memory-foam U-pillow, the honest comparison is the straps and the flat back; Cabeau's page documents the foam too thinly to call it better. Cabeau Inc. is a California company, so the checkout is a US store serving UK addresses, and the page does not say whether customs charges are included in the £34.99.
Skip it if your seats have nothing to strap to
Leave the S3 on the shelf if the seats you sleep in are coach benches, train seats with solid headrests or the bulkhead row, because the straps are what the extra £15 over the Classic buys and they need a headrest to wrap around. Pass too if you sleep hot: the S3 is a full memory-foam collar, and Cabeau sells a separate Evolution Cool at £49.99 whose name points at that complaint.
Also hesitate if you have a short neck or dislike a collar that reaches the jaw. Without published dimensions there is no way to confirm the fit from a screen, and a UK buyer is responsible for the taxes, duties and shipping fees the return page lists. Buy the S3 for the anchoring idea, register it within 30 days, and accept that its foam is an unknown quantity until it is on your neck.
