In this guide
A gift list for him is usually a list of hobbies with products attached: the runner gets running things, the swimmer gets swimming things. The trouble is that the giver rarely knows the hobby as well as the recipient does, so the gift arrives one size, one lens or one litre off. What a giver can know, because the maker publishes it, is how the mistake gets fixed.
Nothing here is a hobby recommendation. A £16.95 neck gaiter, a £25 pair of goggles and a £100 duffle are read for what a giver can verify from the UK listing: the days allowed for a return, who pays to send it back and whether an exchange exists, which cover a wrong guess, and the warranty, or its absence, that covers what happens after the first month.
The things in this guide
A closer look at the products, who they may suit, and what to check before buying.

Original EcoStretch Neckwear · Solid Black
BUFF's Original EcoStretch is £16.95 on BUFF's UK store, one size for a 50 to 58 cm head, 95% recycled polyester and 5% elastane with a stated UPF 50, and BUFF accepts returns for 30 days. One size removes the guess a giver most often gets wrong.
Before you buy: Return postage is the buyer's unless the item is wrong or faulty, BUFF does not exchange, and no warranty is stated. The UPF line ends 'Protection may be weakened' without saying when.

Vanquisher 3.0 Goggles · Black / Smoke
Speedo's Vanquisher 3.0 at £25 is one size in black with a smoke lens, and the written policy allows 60 days from receiving the order to register a return, free in the UK, for items in pristine condition with tags.
Before you buy: Speedo does not exchange: a wrong fit means returning the pair and placing a new order. No warranty is stated for the goggles, and a £25 order pays £5.99 standard delivery because free delivery starts at £50.

Novel Duffle · 11396-00001-OS
Herschel's Novel Duffle at £100 is a 43 L, 1 kg bag in 100% recycled 600D polyester with a Limited Lifetime Warranty on material and manufacturing defects, the strongest after-purchase promise of the three, and the only one that also allows exchanges within its 30 days.
Before you buy: An approved claim ends in a gift card for the original price, or a credit worth 70% of the last selling price without proof of purchase, not a repaired bag. Return postage is the buyer's. Keep the receipt with the gift.

A list sorted by hobby assumes the giver knows the recipient's sport, size, lens tint and bag volume, and in practice the giver knows one of those at best. The result is a gift that is right in category and wrong in detail, which is the most common way a present ends up in a drawer. The recipient is too polite to say so, and the giver never learns.
Sorting by what the maker promises after the sale turns the same list into something a giver can check. Every listing states, somewhere, whether the item can come back, for how long, in what condition, who pays the postage, and whether anything covers it after that window closes. Those terms are the same for every recipient, which is why they are the part of the purchase a giver can get right.
The £16.95 gift that is easy to get right and easy to undo
BUFF sells the Original EcoStretch Neckwear in Solid Black for £16.95 on its UK store, one size, sized by head circumference from 50 to 58 cm for adults because the tube passes over the head. The fabric is 95% recycled polyester and 5% elastane, with a UPF 50 statement tested to AS/NZS 4399:2017. BUFF's UK page lists a 30-day return policy.
One size and a 30-day window make this the lowest-risk item on the list: the only guess a giver has to make is whether the recipient wears something around the neck at all. The fine print is narrower than the headline. BUFF's help centre wants the item in original condition with its tags, puts return postage on the buyer unless the item is wrong or faulty, and does not exchange, so a wrong guess is a refund, never a swap. After 30 days there is no warranty line, and the UPF paragraph ends 'Protection may be weakened' with no explanation of what weakens it.
The £25 gift where the return policy matters more than the lens
Speedo's Adult Vanquisher 3.0 is £25 in black with a smoke lens, one size (1SZ), with a double strap and a listed 380 nm UV rating. Fit is the whole question with goggles, and a giver cannot test it. What a giver can read is Speedo's returns policy: 60 days from receiving the order to register a return, free of charge in the UK, items in pristine condition with all tags intact, and no direct exchanges.
That policy is the reason goggles can be a gift at all, because a wrong fit is discovered in the first swim and goes back at no cost, over twice the window BUFF gives. Three things to hold against it. Speedo does not swap: the buyer returns the pair and places a new order. The refund waits for an inspection that Speedo says can take up to 14 days from receipt. And the product page and returns page state no warranty for the goggles, so once the fit is proven the buyer is on their own. A £25 order also pays £5.99 standard delivery, since free delivery starts at £50.
The £100 gift whose lifetime promise is a gift card
Herschel's Novel Duffle is £100 in Black (11396-00001-OS) on Herschel's UK store, listed at 11.73 by 20.51 by 10.98 inches, 1 kg and 43 litres, in 100% recycled 600D polyester with a removable padded strap and a shoe compartment. It carries Herschel's Limited Lifetime Warranty against material and manufacturing defects, which makes it the only item of the three with a promise that outlasts the returns period.
Returns run 30 days with the bag unused, unwashed and tagged, the buyer paying return postage and the refund leaving out any shipping costs. Herschel alone of the three also exchanges within that window, at the buyer's postage and for full-price items only. Read the warranty before wrapping it: Herschel may replace or reimburse a defective bag, but the process it describes ends in a gift card equal to the original price with proof of purchase, or a credit worth 70% of the last selling price without it. The warranty runs for the original purchaser and is void if the bag came from an unauthorised retailer, so keep the receipt where the recipient can find it.
When the hobby really is the thing to buy for
Skip the method when the recipient has named the exact item. A man who has said which goggles, which gaiter or which bag he wants has done the sizing himself, and the giver's job is to buy that one. Return windows still matter, but they are insurance against a shipping mistake, not against a wrong guess.
Skip it as well when the budget is for a single large gift. At £100 the duffle is the item where the warranty text deserves the reading time; at £16.95 and £25 the gaiter and goggles are cheap enough that a wrong guess costs a return postage label at most, and on the goggles not even that. Put the reading time where the money is, and let the small items ride on their return windows.
