KINTO Travel Tumbler Review: 350ml or 500ml, With the Same Carrying Rules

Settle the serving before the size: £32 for 350ml, £35 for 500ml. Both want carrying upright and washing by hand.

THE SHORT VERSION

Travel mugs divide on one moment: how you drink from them. The KINTO suits a person who fills it at home, carries it upright and opens it during an actual pause. Sipping one-handed with a bag in the other hand is a different job, and this is not the cup for it.

On KINTO's UK store the 350ml costs £32 and the 500ml £35, both with tax included. How it looks on a desk is the smallest question. What matters is whether closing it properly, hand washing it and standing it upright fit the day you actually have.

Our verdict

Pick 350ml for a modest drink or 500ml for a serving you already finish, provided you carry it upright and wash it by hand.

A good fit for
Someone who carries a drink upright, can pause to close and open the lid, and accepts hand-washing.
We would skip it if
You need one-handed access, dishwasher cleanup, or a bottle you routinely toss on its side beside electronics.

Reasons to consider it

  • A defined 350ml or 500ml capacity is easy to plan around
  • KINTO describes a cap you can drink from at any angle, with a structure that catches ice cubes

The compromises

  • KINTO says no dishwasher, microwave or oven, and to keep it upright
  • The lid and cap must be closed tightly before carrying, which adds a step each time you drink

What we have not verified: Temperature retention, leakage, drinking flow and hand comfort are not checked here, only KINTO's own claims. The filled weights below are arithmetic, not scale readings.

The things in this guide

A closer look at the products, who they may suit, and what to check before buying.

Kinto Travel Tumbler · 500ml
For a larger serving you already finish

Travel Tumbler · 500ml

Choose 500ml when you regularly drink the extra rather than merely wanting spare capacity.

Before you buy: A larger filled serving adds carried weight and does not change the closing routine or the washing-up.

KINTO Travel Tumbler 350ml
For a modest personal drink

Travel Tumbler 350ml

Choose 350ml when the serving fits comfortably and a smaller object improves the bag arrangement.

Before you buy: Leave room for closing and for milk or other additions rather than treating nominal capacity as a target.

A full tumbler is a different object from an empty one

KINTO lists the 500ml at a diameter of 74mm, a height of 197mm (173mm without the cap) and about 310g empty. Filled with roughly 500g of water, it would weigh about 810g before accounting for fill level. That last figure is simple arithmetic, not a measured weight.

Set that against the drink you actually need between refills. Ten steps from an office kitchen, 810g is carrying water you could have poured later. Four hours from any tap, the same figure is the reason to buy it.

The opening routine is the decisive feature

KINTO describes a plain cap you can drink from at any angle, like a glass or mug, and a structure that holds ice back. The page says the cap has no screws, so it is the lid sequence that costs time: turn it anticlockwise until it clicks, then clockwise, and flip the tumbler once to check it does not leak. Desk, bench or seated break, yes. Crossing a platform with a bag in the other hand, no.

Rehearse it with any bottle from the cupboard. Where does the cap go while you drink, and is there anywhere to stand the tumbler? Those two answers predict more than the colour does.

Read the handling instructions as part of the design

KINTO publishes six hours for hot drinks (65°C) and six for cold (8°C). The same page says not to use a dishwasher, microwave or oven, to seat the silicone rings correctly and to keep the tumbler upright to prevent spills or leakage. A tightly closed cap does not mean a bag laid on its side stays dry.

The temperature claims are unchecked here, and insulation alone rarely decides anything at this price. What decides it is the washing-up. A tumbler that has to be hand washed in a house that runs a dishwasher often ends up at the back of the cupboard by week three.

Choose the kind of interruption you can live with

Every reusable mug adds five small tasks: fill, close, open, clean, remember. The KINTO optimises the drinking and leaves the other four intact. Whether that trade works depends on which of the five you resent.

A parent with a full pushchair, a nurse mid-shift, anyone with limited grip: compare flip and button lids before this one. Someone whose coffee is a fifteen-minute pause at a desk loses nothing to the closing routine. Choose around the hardest moment in the day, not the easiest.

A proper leak test or a season of real use would sharpen this. Without either, the recommendation stays inside what the manufacturer permits.

The extra drink outweighs the difference between empty cups

KINTO gives approximate empty weights of 245g for the 350ml and 310g for the 500ml, a difference of 65g before the first sip. Full nominal volumes of water would come to about 595g and 810g; these are arithmetic estimates, not scale measurements or instructions to fill to the rim.

Pour a small drink into the large tumbler and you carry the extra 65g of steel without the extra liquid. Fine if you already own it. A poor reason to buy a second cup, unless those 65g belong to a carrying problem you meet every day.

The two sizes are £3 apart (£32 and £35). One cup ships for £2.95 on KINTO's standard 48-hour tracked service, while both together come to £67 and clear the £50 free-delivery line. Returns are accepted for 14 days on unused items, the buyer pays the postage back and there are no exchanges, so settle the size before you order.

A different size does not change the carrying rules

The 500ml listing gives a body of 74 by 197mm, the 350ml 70 by 170mm. Both give the same two instructions: carry it upright, keep it out of the dishwasher. Settle those shared requirements before arguing about capacity, because they apply whichever size arrives.

Check the intended upright pocket with the rest of the bag in place, allowing space to lift the tumbler out. If the bag is routinely laid on its side or the household depends on dishwasher cleanup, consider a different design instead. A shorter body does not remove the need to follow the same handling instructions.

Measure your finished drink, including milk or other additions, before ordering, and leave room to close the lid properly. Choose 350ml when that serving fits; buy the larger cup when you regularly finish the extra, not for unused headroom. Both come in seven colours on the UK store at one price per size, and ash green in 500ml and sand beige in 350ml are listed as available.
