KINTO Travel Tumbler Review: 350ml or 500ml, With the Same Carrying Rules

Match the serving before choosing a size: $47 for 350ml, $50 for 500ml. Both want upright carrying and hand washing.

THE SHORT VERSION

Travel mugs divide on one moment: how you drink from them. The KINTO suits a person who fills it at home, carries it upright and opens it during an actual pause. Sipping one-handed while carrying something else is a different job, and this is not the cup for it.

KINTO Canada sells the 350ml at $47 and the 500ml at $50, both in Canadian dollars and before shipping. What matters is whether closing it, hand washing it and standing it upright fit the day you actually have.

Our verdict

Consider 350ml for a modest drink or 500ml for an established larger serving, provided upright carrying and hand washing fit your day.

A good fit for
Someone who carries a drink upright, can stop to close and open a lid and cap, and accepts hand washing.
We would skip it if
You need one-handed access, dishwasher cleanup, or a bottle you routinely toss sideways beside electronics.

Reasons to consider it

  • A defined capacity, 350ml or 500ml in the same design, is easy to plan around
  • KINTO describes a cap that stops ice and hot drink coming out aggressively while you sip

The compromises

  • KINTO says no dishwasher, microwave or oven, and to keep it upright
  • Lid and cap both have to be closed tightly before carrying, which adds a step each time you drink

What we have not verified: Neither size was compared for temperature retention, leakage, drinking flow or hand comfort; the pages give maker claims only, and the two Canadian pages quote different hot and cold temperatures for the 500ml.

The things in this guide

A closer look at the products, who they may suit, and what to check before buying.

Kinto Travel Tumbler · 500ml
For an established larger serving

Travel Tumbler · 500ml

Choose this size when you regularly finish the extra drink rather than merely wanting spare capacity.

Before you buy: A larger filled serving adds carried weight and does not improve the opening routine.

KINTO Travel Tumbler 350ml
For a modest personal drink

Travel Tumbler 350ml

Choose this size when the serving fits comfortably and a smaller object improves the bag arrangement.

Before you buy: Leave appropriate room for closing and additions rather than treating nominal capacity as a target.

A full tumbler is a different object from an empty one

The 500ml listing at KINTO Canada gives a diameter of 73mm and a height of 197mm; KINTO's US specification page gives about 310g empty and 173mm without the cap. Filled with roughly 500g of water, it would weigh about 810g before accounting for fill level. That last figure is our own arithmetic, not a measured product weight.

Set that against the drink you actually need between refills. Ten steps from an office kitchen, 810g is carrying water you could have poured later. Four hours from any tap, the same figure is the reason to buy it.

The closing routine is the decisive feature

KINTO says the cap stops ice cubes and hot drinks from coming out aggressively so you can drink to the last sip. The care text is where the routine shows: close the lid and cap tightly before carrying, and make sure the cap is tight when you open the lid. That is a two-part closing job and a loose part to put down while you drink.

Desk, bench or seated break, yes. Crossing a platform with a bag in the other hand, no. Rehearse it with any bottle from the cupboard: where does the cap go while you drink, and is there anywhere to stand the tumbler? Those two answers predict more than the colour does.

Read the handling instructions as part of the design

KINTO publishes six-hour hot and six-hour cold retention claims. The same pages say not to use a dishwasher, microwave or oven, to attach the silicone rings correctly, and to keep the tumbler upright to avoid spills or leakage. Eight Ounce Coffee's copy adds washing and drying soon after use. A lid and cap do not mean a bag laid on its side stays dry.

The temperature claims are unverified here, and insulation alone rarely decides anything at this price. What decides it is the washing-up: with a no-dishwasher rule, every use ends at the sink.

Choose the kind of interruption you can live with

Every reusable mug adds five small tasks: fill, close, open, clean, remember. The KINTO optimizes the drinking and leaves the other four intact. Whether that trade works depends entirely on which of the five you resent.

A parent with a full stroller, a nurse mid-shift, anyone with limited grip: compare flip and button lids before this one. Someone whose coffee is a fifteen-minute pause at a desk loses little to a two-part closure. Choose around the hardest moment in the day, not the easiest.

KINTO Canada takes back only unused items in original packaging, within 30 days; Eight Ounce Coffee's own policy is more forgiving and accepts used items for the same 30 days. Neither stands in for a real leak test or a season of daily use, so the recommendation stays inside what the manufacturer permits.

The extra drink outweighs the difference between empty cups

KINTO's US pages give approximate empty weights of 245g for 350ml and 310g for 500ml. The difference is 65g before adding a drink. Adding the full nominal volume of water would give about 595g and 810g respectively, which is a sum, not an instruction to fill to the rim.

Pour a small drink into the large tumbler and you keep the extra 65g of steel without the extra liquid. Fine if you already own it. A poor reason to buy a second cup, unless those 65g are attached to a carrying problem you meet every day.

On price the sizes are $3 apart ($47 and $50 at KINTO Canada). A single tumbler sits under the $75 free-shipping line either way, so a flat $10 shipping charge dwarfs that gap; the size should follow the drink, not the invoice.

A different size does not change the carrying rules

The 500ml listing gives a body of 73 by 197mm, the smaller one 70 by 170mm. Both say the same two things: carry it upright, keep it out of the dishwasher. Settle those shared requirements before arguing about capacity, because they apply whichever size arrives.

Check the intended upright pocket with the rest of the bag in place, allowing space to lift the tumbler out. If the bag is routinely laid on its side or the household depends on dishwasher cleanup, consider a different design instead. A shorter body does not remove the need to follow the same handling instructions.

Measure your finished drink, including milk or other additions, before ordering. Leave room to close the lid properly. Choose 350ml when that serving fits; buy the larger cup when you regularly finish the extra drink, rather than for unused headroom.
