In this guide
The HEMNES chest sold in the UK is not the one sold in the US. IKEA UK lists a three-drawer chest, article 804.247.45, at £199: 108 cm wide, 50 cm deep and 96 cm tall, with 190 litres across three drawers. IKEA UK does not currently list the 54 cm two-drawer chest that serves as a bedside table in the US; the HEMNES piece sized for a bedside in the UK range is a 46 × 35 cm bedside table.
That changes the decision. At 96 cm tall this is a chest of drawers for a spare room, a landing or a child's room, not a bedside table. What it keeps from the US piece is the construction: solid pine in the top, sides, legs and drawer fronts, a wall anchor in the instructions, and a flat-pack build.
Our verdict
Buy it as a chest for a spare room or landing, not as a bedside table: at 96 cm tall and 108 cm wide it is a different piece from the 54 cm two-drawer chest.
- A good fit for
- A spare bedroom, landing or child's room that needs 190 litres of closed pine storage against a wall that can take two screws.
- We would skip it if
- You want the 54 cm bedside chest from the US range, you cannot drill into the wall, or the room cannot take a 108 cm-wide piece.
Reasons to consider it
- Top, sides, legs, front rail and drawer fronts in solid pine; drawer sides and backs also pine.
- Three drawers, 190 litres, 43 cm inside depth and a 29.4 cm pull-out.
- 365-day returns stated on the page.
The compromises
- It is not the two-drawer bedside chest: 96 cm tall, 108 cm wide, 50 cm deep.
- The wall anchor is required, and the chest ships as two packages.
- No product-specific warranty is named on the page.
What we have not verified: Not tested: drawer feel under load and finish consistency across units. The page gives no drawer load limit.

HEMNES Chest of Drawers
Solid pine case and drawer fronts, 190 litres over three drawers, 108 × 50 × 96 cm, for £199.
Before you buy: A different, much larger piece than the 54 cm two-drawer chest; wall anchor required; two packages.
Price checked 18 October 2026. Retailer prices can change.Three drawers, 190 litres, 96 cm
The chest is 108 cm wide, 50 cm deep and 96 cm tall, with three drawers that together hold 190 litres. Each drawer has 43 cm of inside depth and pulls out 29.4 cm, so the back of the drawer stays in the case. There is 11 cm of clearance under the legs.
Those numbers rule out the bedside job. A 96 cm top is above most mattress heights, and 108 cm of width is a chest, not a bedside table. In a spare room or on a landing it does what a chest should: folded clothes, bedding and the things that otherwise sit in piles.
Pine on the outside, fibreboard where it is hidden
The material list is specific: top, sides, legs, front rail and drawer fronts in solid pine with stain and clear acrylic lacquer; drawer sides and backs in solid pine; inner side panels, back panel and drawer bottoms in fibreboard. That is a normal mix at this price, and it is more pine than a foil-wrapped chest offers.
At £199 the chest is judged against other 108 cm pine chests, not against IKEA's £12 steel bedside table. The finish is white stain, which lets the grain show, so two units bought a year apart may not match perfectly.
Two packages and a wall anchor
The page warns of a tipping hazard and says the chest must be attached to the wall; an anchoring kit is included, but the right fixings depend on your wall, so the drilling is your side of the job. A 96 cm chest with three open drawers is a lever.
The chest ships as two packages, and the page gives no assembly time. Plan for a two-person carry and a clear floor for the build.
Returns, delivery and cover
IKEA UK states 365-day returns; the conditions sit in the returns policy. No product-specific warranty for HEMNES bedroom furniture is named on the page, so consumer law is the fallback.
Delivery depends on postcode and basket. Two packages at this size are a two-person carry, and the 108 cm width needs a landing or doorway wide enough to turn.
When to skip it
Skip it if you wanted the 54 cm two-drawer bedside chest. IKEA UK does not list that piece, and buying this one instead means a 96 cm chest beside a bed, which is the wrong shape for a lamp and a book.
Skip it too without a wall that takes a screw, or if 108 cm will not fit the landing. For a spare room that needs closed pine storage and has the wall for the anchor, £199 is a fair price for 190 litres.
