The SereneScent Waterless Rechargeable 120 ml is the battery model in HoMedics' waterless line: a fabric-wrapped cylinder, 1.61 pounds on Amazon's spec table, that turns fragrance oil into a dry mist without water or heat. On homedics.com it lists at $149.99 with no reference price — Black and Blue in stock, Grey sold out — and Amazon itself stocks the Black ARMH-973BK at an identical $149.99, both read on October 27, 2026. HoMedics' store clears delivery charges from $99 and takes 25 percent off oil ordered on subscription.
Its corded twin, the ARMH-970, costs $129.99 and runs the same bottles. HoMedics' older aroma aisle, the $44.99 Ellia Voyage ultrasonic, takes 5 to 7 drops of any oil per fill. The SereneScent takes only HoMedics' own: "Use of any other oil is not recommended and will void diffuser warranty," reads the FAQ on the SereneScent listing. Aroma360 and Scentiment print the same kind of clause on their waterless machines; here it comes from a brand whose cheaper diffuser has none, and the money question is what $105 more and the lock actually buy.
Our verdict
At $149.99 the SereneScent buys battery freedom, app scheduling and a flat one-year warranty; the cost is a standing oil habit — $59.99 a 120 ml bottle at list, roughly a month each — and no other oil allowed.
- A good fit for
- A bedroom or lounge without a handy outlet, where a cordless, scheduled tower is worth $150 and about $45-60 a month in HoMedics bottles is an accepted running cost.
- We would skip it if
- You want to pour your own oils — any other oil voids the warranty — or $45-60 a month in bottles is too much; the $44.99 Ellia Voyage takes any oil.
Reasons to consider it
- Cordless by design: the listing promises up to 14 hours a charge, about 6.5 hours to recharge, and ships the USB-C cord and wall adapter
- A flat one-year limited warranty printed in the box manual, where Aroma360's manual gives 90 days and Scentiment six months unless an oil subscription is running
- Three intermittent intensity levels, six-color solid or breathing ambient lights, and app scheduling, with the 120 ml bottle twisting off for refills
The compromises
- The clause is print-grade: "Use of any other oil is not recommended and will void diffuser warranty," and HoMedics warns other oils clog the atomization head
- SereneScent 120 ml bottles list at $59.99 (four scents $69.99, several scents marked to $44.99), rated up to 30 days of 8-hour use at middle intensity
- The only coverage line, 100 sq ft, sits beside 300 sq ft for HoMedics' smaller unit; no noise rating; Grey is sold out on homedics.com; the lithium-ion battery is sealed and not user-serviceable
What we have not verified: HoMedics' own documents disagree: the page promises up to 14 hours and a 6.5-hour charge, the instruction booklet approximately 10 and 8. Its one coverage answer gives this tower 100 square feet against 300 for the smaller 15 ml model, which looks transposed; decibels and per-level oil use are unpublished, and the 30-day oil figure assumes 8-hour days at middle intensity.
The things in this guide
A closer look at the products, who they may suit, and what to check before buying.

HoMedics SereneScent Waterless Rechargeable 120 ml Diffuser
$149.99 buys a cordless fabric diffuser with three intensity levels, ambient lights, app scheduling and a flat one-year limited warranty, at the same price on homedics.com and from Amazon itself.
Before you buy: Runs only on SereneScent oil, rated up to 30 days per 120 ml bottle at $59.99 list; any other oil voids the warranty; a muddled 100 sq ft coverage line, no published noise level, sealed battery.
Price checked October 27, 2026. Retailer prices can change.$149.99 at both counters, and a bundle marked limited-time
HoMedics prices the bare unit at $149.99 with no strikethrough. Amazon, selling and fulfilling the Black ARMH-973BK itself, asked the same on October 27, 2026, and accepts it back at no cost for a month. HoMedics counters with delivery included from $99 — the diffuser alone clears it — a 30-day guarantee badge, and 25 percent off oil on subscription, which takes a $59.99 bottle to about $45. On hardware price neither counter wins; the oil subscription is the reason to open an account with HoMedics.
HoMedics also sells the tower with a 120 ml Aspen Fir bottle for $125.99 against a $209.98 compare-at, which is simply the two list prices added. The bundle page flags it "LIMITED TIME: 40% OFF BUNDLE" without an end date, so it is a promotion, not the price to plan on. Until it ends, a buyer staying on SereneScent oil anyway gets machine and first bottle for $24 less than the machine alone. A buyer hoping to try the tower on their own oils gains nothing from either route.
A fabric tower, a muddled room size, and two runtimes
The SereneScent is a fabric-wrapped cylinder with the oil bottle hanging under a lift-off top. HoMedics describes the mechanism as air pressure breaking oil into a dry mist at an atomization head, no water and no heat, released in bursts: the pause between them runs about 4 minutes at level 1, 2 at level 2 and 1 at level 3. Six colors of solid or breathing light, base buttons, a 1-to-8-hour timer and scheduling in the Bluetooth app round it out. HoMedics prints no decibel rating; "whisper-quiet" is the whole noise story.
Room size is murkier. HoMedics' FAQ gives this 120 ml tower "up to 100 sq feet" and its smaller 15 ml model up to 300, an ordering that looks reversed, while Amazon's spec table also reads 100 square feet beside the words "Large room." Until HoMedics settles it, the safe plan is one ordinary bedroom or living area, not an open floor.
The battery wobbles on paper too. The listing promises up to 14 hours on a charge and a refill of the battery in about 6.5 hours over the supplied USB-C cord and adapter; the ARMH-973 instruction booklet reads approximately 10 hours of run time and 8 hours to full, and has the diffuser switch itself off once the battery is depleted. When one company's page and manual disagree by four hours, the manual's 10 is the planning number. The lithium-ion battery is internal and not user-serviceable.
The oil contract, at mass-market prices
The lock has two layers. On the listing, HoMedics answers that the diffuser "will only work properly when using SereneScent oils" and that "use of any other oil is not recommended and will void diffuser warranty"; a second answer warns that other oils "will clog the atomization head." The format is an open 120 ml bottle rather than a sealed cartridge — you twist on a SereneScent bottle, and the empty one that ships with the machine is kept for cleaning runs of 90-percent isopropyl alcohol — so nothing physically stops a third-party pour. The warranty is what enforces it.
The fuel bill: 120 ml bottles list at $59.99, with four scents at $69.99 and several others cut to $44.99 on October 27, 2026. HoMedics rates a bottle at up to 30 days of 8-hour days at middle intensity, or up to 60 days of 4-hour days, which prices daily scenting at $1.50 to $2.33 and a month at $44.99 to $69.99 — at the $59.99 list, three bottles cost more than the machine. The 60 ml samplers are a Costco exclusive. Per milliliter the standing bottle costs about $0.50, against Aroma360's $1.83 and Scentiment's $0.42.
The same clause, a longer warranty
The oil-voids-warranty clause is not HoMedics' invention. Aroma360's FAQ voids its warranty on other oils and its manual sets the term at ninety days; Scentiment voids its coverage the same way, over a half-year term that reaches twelve months only while an oil subscription stays active. HoMedics pairs the clause with a flat one-year limited warranty printed in the ARMH-973 manual: repair or replacement of defective parts, no refunds, service through Consumer Relations, and exclusions for drops, missed recommended maintenance, and units opened, repackaged or resold through auction sites.
Against the $79.95 Aroma360 Mini 2.0 the SereneScent costs $70 more, adds nine months of written coverage, and runs on oil at about a quarter of Aroma360's per-milliliter rate; against Scentiment's $79.98 Air 2 LE the oil costs a little more per milliliter but the year comes without a subscription. All three tie the buyer to one brand's bottles; what separates the SereneScent is the year of paper, the battery and what its oil costs.
Inside HoMedics: the Voyage ultrasonic and the corded sibling
HoMedics sells the opposite of the SereneScent in its own catalog. The Ellia Voyage, $44.99, is a 100 ml water-tank ultrasonic that takes 5 to 7 drops of any oil the buyer owns, publishes its runtimes (6 hours continuous, 12 intermittent), and costs about $6 a month to scent at one fill a day on Ellia's own $9.99 bottles. The SereneScent answers with cordless hours, no tank to rinse and set-and-forget scheduling, and pays for it with ten times the monthly oil bill and the exclusivity clause.
Within the SereneScent line the choice is simpler. The corded ARMH-970 at $129.99 shares the 120 ml oil system, the intensity levels and the app, gives up the battery and $20 of price, and suits a shelf that never moves. The rechargeable's $149.99 buys those 14 claimed — or 10, by the booklet — untethered hours. Anyone avoiding the clause has to leave the SereneScent family for the Voyage, because every SereneScent machine runs on SereneScent bottles.
