The LAGAN over-the-range microwave is the appliance IKEA sells for the cabinet above a stove when the budget is the constraint: a 30-inch-wide box that heats food at 1000 W in a 1.7 cu ft cavity and doubles as a range hood with a two-speed fan rated at 300 CFM. It costs $299 at IKEA US, comes only in white, and arrives with a cord and plug, a charcoal filter for kitchens with no duct, and a wall template.
Everything about it is basic in the specific sense: 11 power levels, a handful of auto-cook and defrost presets, a clock and a child lock, and a fan that is either high, low or off. The part of the story that needs care is the warranty, and IKEA's own documents do not settle it: the same listing gives a five-year feature and a two-year sentence, the appliance warranty page names only TILLREDA as a shorter exception, the March 2026 kitchen warranty brochure gives LAGAN two years with no date attached, and the manual in the box gives five years except for LAGAN and TILLREDA. No page says which text a claim is judged under.
Our verdict
A serviceable $299 way to put a microwave and a hood in one 30-inch slot, best where the cabinet above already has an outlet. IKEA prints the coverage as five years and as two, with no note on which governs.
- A good fit for
- A rental or a budget kitchen refresh where a combined microwave and hood must fit a 30-inch cabinet run, the cooking below is light, and a 300 CFM recirculating fan is acceptable.
- We would skip it if
- You cook with high heat or a wok, want a quiet hood, or need a warranty term you can rely on without reading four documents.
Reasons to consider it
- 1000 W with 11 power levels, five auto-cook presets, weight and time defrost and a child lock at $299
- Two-speed 300 CFM fan with an LED cooktop light, a charcoal filter in the box and grease filters that go in a dishwasher
- Plug-in cord, 52 lb weight and IKEA's return terms of 365 days unopened and 180 days opened
The compromises
- 65 dB(A) rated noise, and one posted review calls the fan extremely loud and the cooktop light weak
- The microwave's listing carries a 5 year key feature and a 2-year sentence at the same time, IKEA's appliance warranty page names only TILLREDA as a shorter exception and does not mention LAGAN, and the kitchen warranty brochure and this model's manual both give LAGAN two years
- Needs a dedicated 15 A grounded receptacle inside the cabinet above, plus NYTTIG filler pieces in IKEA cabinets
What we have not verified: The microwave was not installed or run; real fan performance against 300 CFM, how loud 65 dB(A) is in a small kitchen, the evenness of the turntable and the usefulness of the LED strip come from IKEA's figures and the reviews posted on its page, not from testing. Which coverage term applies to a LAGAN microwave bought now is unresolved in IKEA's own documents: the appliance warranty page gives major appliances five years and names only TILLREDA as shorter, while the kitchen warranty brochure and this model's manual give LAGAN two years, and no page says which text a claim is judged under.
The things in this guide
A closer look at the products, who they may suit, and what to check before buying.

LAGAN Over-the-range Microwave, White, 30 in (505.876.25)
1000 W and 1.7 cu ft with 11 power levels, a 300 CFM two-speed fan with LED cooktop lighting, a charcoal filter in the box for recirculating installs, a plug-in cord, a 52 lb body and a $299 price.
Before you buy: The fan is rated at 65 dB(A), the light draws complaints in posted reviews, and IKEA's documents print two coverage terms without saying which one a claim is judged under.
Price checked September 11, 2026. Retailer prices can change.1000 W in 1.7 cubic feet, and a fan with two speeds
As a microwave the LAGAN is mid-sized: 1.7 cu ft measured as the cavity's maximum width, depth and height, which the manual admits overstates the space for food, and a 12 3/8-inch turntable that also runs in reverse. Output is 1000 W by the IEC test method from a 1500 W, 13.5 A draw. The panel offers 11 power levels, a Quick Start row of six instant keys, five auto-cook programs for bacon, a dinner plate, rice, frozen breakfast and frozen pizza, four melt and soften settings, weight or time defrost, a timer, and a child lock that engages by holding Stop/Clear for three seconds. Multi-stage cooking lets you queue a defrost and a cook in one go.
As a hood it is a 300 CFM extractor with high, low and off, a grease filter pair that lifts out for the upper dishwasher rack, and an LED strip lighting the cooktop. The charcoal filter in the box is for a recirculating install where no duct leaves the kitchen; the manual calls for a change every 6 to 12 months and gives a part number for reorders. The 65 dB(A) rating is loud for a kitchen appliance; the LAGAN fridge beside it is 43 dB(A). At the 2026-09-11 read nine reviews averaged 3.2 stars, one calling the fan extremely loud and the light too weak to work by; on 2026-10-05 the page showed eleven reviews averaging 3.1 stars.
An outlet in the cabinet above, anchors in the wall, and filler pieces for IKEA cabinets
The unit measures 29 7/8 by 15 by 16 3/8 inches (width, depth, height) and weighs 52 lb 16 oz, shipping as one 64 lb 3 oz carton; IKEA's doorstep delivery starts at $29 for Family members and in-home delivery at $69, more in the northeastern states and metro regions IKEA lists. It hangs from a wall plate and bolts up through the cabinet above using the supplied templates, and IKEA's falling-hazard warning means the wall anchors are not optional. Two people and a drill are the realistic minimum, and the manual points to a qualified electrician for any grounding question.
The electrical requirement is the item most likely to derail a Saturday: a separate 120 V, 60 Hz, 15 A branch circuit ending in a single grounded receptacle inside the cabinet directly above the mounting position, reached by the 39-inch cord. A kitchen that has never had an over-the-range unit will need that outlet added. In IKEA's own cabinet systems the microwave also needs NYTTIG filler pieces, one for the back in SEKTION and one for over-the-range use in ENHET, KNOXHULT or SEKTION, each bought on its own. Ducted venting is possible but the fetched pages do not give the duct size, so confirm it in the assembly instructions before ordering ductwork.
Two years or five: what the listing, the warranty page, the brochure and the manual each say
Both terms sit on IKEA's listing for the microwave. Its features box carries a 5 year limited warranty, and the product details tab below it prints the sentence 2-year warranty. Read about the terms in the warranty brochure. That sentence links nothing. The appliance warranty page the footer links covers major appliances for five years, paying for factory specified parts and repair labor, and names TILLREDA alone as a two-year exception; LAGAN appears nowhere on it. The brochure that page does link, marked 03252026, gives LAGAN and TILLREDA two years in its summary, twice in its Appliances section and again in its implied-warranty clause, with no purchase date attached.
The manual in the box reads a fourth way: five years from the original purchase date unless the appliance is named LAGAN or TILLREDA, in which case two years apply, with no date condition. So the brochure and the manual print two years for this microwave, the warranty page prints five and names only TILLREDA, and the product page prints both. No page says which text a claim on article 505.876.25 is judged under. Coverage is the same either way: factory parts and repair labor, in-home repair, a receipt required, and no coverage for installation service calls, house wiring, filters, cosmetic damage reported after thirty days, or an appliance installed against the instructions.
$299 against IKEA's other 30-inch options, and a long return window
At $299 the LAGAN is the cheapest 30-inch over-the-range microwave IKEA's US search returns; the SKALLEBO in the same width lists at $399 and the YGSBO convection model at $499, so the LAGAN's discount buys a plainer control set and a lower-rated fan rather than a smaller oven. The sensible comparison is not those two but a countertop microwave plus a separate hood, which costs more in total and takes counter space, and that is the trade this product exists to make.
IKEA's return terms are the part of the deal that offsets the warranty muddle: 365 days for an unopened product and 180 days for an opened one, refunded to the same payment method with the receipt. A microwave that turns out too loud once it is running is returnable in the first half year, though the cost and effort of unmounting a 52 lb unit and refilling the wall anchors falls on you, and delivery fees are not part of the refund wording IKEA publishes.
Skip it if the stove below does real work
A 300 CFM fan that recirculates through a charcoal filter is a token hood for a gas range or anyone searing and stir-frying most nights; grease and steam will win, and the 65 dB(A) rating means you will hear the fan lose. A dedicated hood ducted outside, with a countertop microwave elsewhere, is the better arrangement for that kitchen, and IKEA's own range-hood range runs well past this unit's fan rating.
Hold back as well if quiet matters, because IKEA's own figure is 22 dB(A) above its LAGAN fridge and the posted reviews agree, or if the kitchen has no outlet in the cabinet above and you were hoping to plug into a counter receptacle. And if you want a warranty term you can state in one sentence, this product does not offer one: the appliance warranty page gives five years and names only TILLREDA as a two-year exception, while the brochure and the manual both give LAGAN two, so budget around the shorter term and ask IKEA which text applies to article 505.876.25 before ordering.
