IKEA LAGAN Top-Freezer Refrigerator Review: The Appliance IKEA Lets You Plug In Yourself

IKEA's $749 freestanding fridge arrives with its cord attached and asks only for a grounded outlet and a level floor, which makes it a very different purchase from the $399 LAGAN dishwasher that needs an installer. The rest is an 18 cu ft top-freezer with a 43 dB(A) rating and a white-only finish.

THE SHORT VERSION

IKEA sells two LAGAN refrigerators in the US and one of them is the whole fridge. The compact 50490119 is a $299 dorm-style box; the 30587626 covered in this piece is a full-height 18.0 cu ft top-freezer at $749, article number 305.876.26, in white, the only finish offered. It is a freestanding unit: 29 1/2 inches across, 32 3/4 deep and 66 5/8 tall, with 13.98 cu ft of fresh-food space above a 4.06 cu ft freezer, automatic defrost in both compartments, LED lighting and tempered-glass shelves you can move.

The reason to write about it is what IKEA does not ask of you. The $399 LAGAN dishwasher ships without a cord or plug and comes with an instruction that a qualified installer do the fitting. The refrigerator ships with its cord and three-prong plug attached, and the manual's installation chapter amounts to a dedicated outlet, a level floor and an eighth of an inch of clearance. That difference, plus a 43 dB(A) rating, is the case for it. The coverage needs reading: IKEA's listing, warranty page, kitchen brochure and manual give a LAGAN fridge five years or two, and none says which one a claim uses.

Our verdict

A plain, well-documented $749 top-freezer: 18 cu ft, no-frost in both compartments, a 43 dB(A) rating and a cord in the box. Check the 32 3/4 inch depth, the white-only finish, and read the coverage as two terms.

A good fit for
A household after a fridge delivered to the kitchen, rolled into a 30-inch gap, leveled on its front feet and plugged into a dedicated outlet the same afternoon, with a warranty that sends a technician to the house.
We would skip it if
Your kitchen calls for stainless, a bottom freezer or an ice maker, the fridge alcove is shallower than about 33 inches plus door swing, or you expect the freezer to hold more than a modest 4.06 cu ft.

Reasons to consider it

  • Cord and three-prong plug included, freestanding installation, and a door you can hang on either side; none of the installer or cable-kit costs the LAGAN dishwasher adds
  • Automatic defrost in both fridge and freezer, LED lighting, adjustable tempered-glass shelves and a 43 dB(A) noise rating
  • ENERGY STAR at 362 kWh per year with an estimated $51 annual energy cost, and factory parts plus in-home repair labor covered under whichever of IKEA's two printed terms applies

The compromises

  • White is the only finish IKEA sells in the US, and at 32 3/4 inches deep it will stand proud of a 24-inch counter run
  • The freezer is 4.06 cu ft of an 18 cu ft total, and there is no ice maker or water dispenser
  • One description prints a 5 year key fact and a 2-year sentence, the appliance warranty page names only TILLREDA as a shorter exception and does not mention LAGAN, and the March 2026 kitchen warranty brochure gives LAGAN two years with no purchase date attached

What we have not verified: The refrigerator was not run, measured for noise or loaded. IKEA's page shows five customer reviews averaging 4 stars. The energy cost figure is a federal estimate, the 4 to 5 hour cool-down time comes from the manual, and delivery prices on IKEA's service page are starting figures that vary by ZIP code and weight. Which coverage term applies to a LAGAN fridge bought now is unresolved in IKEA's own documents: the manual runs to five years and sets two only for appliances bought before May 1, 2026, the kitchen warranty brochure gives LAGAN two years with no date attached, and the appliance warranty page gives major appliances five years while naming only TILLREDA as shorter.

LAGAN Top-freezer Refrigerator, White, 18.0 cu ft (305.876.26)

18 cu ft in a 29 1/2 inch wide cabinet, no-frost in both compartments, a cord in the box, a reversible door, 43 dB(A) and appliance coverage IKEA states two ways, at $749, with returns accepted for 365 days.

Before you buy: White only, 32 3/4 inches deep, a 4.06 cu ft freezer with no ice maker, and delivery to the kitchen is a separate charge from $29 depending on the service level and your state.

Eighteen cubic feet, split fourteen and four

IKEA's headline figure is 18.0 cu ft, and the manual splits it into 13.98 cu ft for the refrigerator and 4.06 cu ft for the freezer on top. Inside are tempered-glass shelves that move, a steel wire shelf, a dairy box, door balconies in both compartments and two fruit and vegetable drawers IKEA describes as transparent so you can see what is in them. LED lighting is built in and IKEA says the light source should last the life of the appliance, which also means it is not a part you replace.

Both compartments defrost automatically. IKEA calls it a no-frost function that regulates humidity so ice does not build on the food or the walls, and the manual adds a caveat: with a hot room, a full load and the coldest of the five settings, the compressor can run continuously and frost can form on the rear wall, in which case you turn the setting up. The default is setting 3 and the appliance needs 4 to 5 hours after plug-in to reach a temperature safe for a typical load of food.

A 30-inch gap, a 33-inch depth and one grounded outlet

The cabinet measures 29 1/2 inches in width, 66 5/8 tall and 32 3/4 deep, and the depth is the number that surprises. Standard base cabinets and counters run about 24 inches, so the LAGAN will project well beyond a counter run, as most freestanding top-freezers do. Add the door swing to that when measuring an alcove. The manual requires at least 1/8 inch of clearance around and above the unit and asks that air circulate freely behind it, away from radiators, boilers and direct sun. Weight is 169 lb 12 oz, and it ships as one package of 198 lb 7 oz measuring 32 3/4 by 30 3/4 by 70 inches.

Power is where this appliance parts company with the LAGAN dishwasher. The cord and three-prong plug are included, the cord runs 98 3/8 inches, and the manual calls for its own dedicated 115 V, 60 Hz, 15 A grounded outlet with the grounding prong left intact. There is no hard-wiring, no cable kit and no installer requirement; leveling is done with two feet at the front, and IKEA's safety note requires the unit to be anchored against tipping with fixings suited to your wall. The rated noise level is 43 dB(A), which IKEA notes is a lab figure that can vary with room acoustics.

362 kWh a year on the federal label

The energy label IKEA publishes for model LAGAN N 30587626 lists an estimated 362 kWh of electricity per year and an estimated annual energy cost of $51, against a range of $49 to $70 for models with similar features and $38 to $90 for all models in the class. The unit carries ENERGY STAR certification. Those are standardized estimates at a fixed electricity rate, so your bill will differ, but the position at the bottom of the similar-features band is a fair reading of the label.

The label also records what the fridge lacks: no through-the-door ice, and by extension no ice maker or water dispenser at all. On a $749 appliance this is a reasonable omission, since a dispenser adds a plumbing connection, a filter to buy and a common failure point. It does mean ice comes from trays in a 4.06 cu ft freezer that is already the smaller share of the box.

Delivery from $29, in-home from $69, and a warranty its own documents leave open

A 198 lb package qualifies for IKEA's large-item Standard Delivery, which the service page lists from $29, or $19 for IKEA Family members, for orders under 300 lb, delivered outside the home or to a building lobby within a date range. Scheduled In-Home Delivery, which brings the box to one room of your choice, starts at $69 or $59 for members. Starting prices are higher in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Rhode Island and New York, and IKEA says the cart shows the exact figure by ZIP code. Set that against the LAGAN dishwasher at $399, where IKEA supplies no cable or plug and directs the buyer to a qualified installer: the fridge's only extra is getting it through the door.

Coverage needs reading because the documents do not agree. Both answers sit on the page: a five-year key fact up top, and lower down the description line "2-year warranty. Read about the terms in the warranty brochure.", a sentence that links nothing. The manual runs the guarantee at five years from the original date of purchase, with two years only for LAGAN appliances bought before May 1, 2026. The brochure the appliance warranty page does link gives LAGAN and TILLREDA two years with no date attached, and that page's own answer names only TILLREDA, with LAGAN appearing nowhere on it.

Whatever the term, the warranty page and the manual describe the same cover: factory specified parts and the labor to correct a defect the appliance arrived with, repaired in the home rather than picked up, with the original sales receipt required as proof of purchase. IKEA excludes food loss from a refrigerator failure, cosmetic damage not reported within thirty days, service calls to correct an installation fault, and filters as consumables. Returns run for 365 days.

Skip it if the kitchen is stainless or the freezer does the heavy lifting

Pass on the LAGAN if the finish matters. IKEA offers this refrigerator in white only in the US, with no stainless or black variant, and a white box beside stainless ovens and dishwashers is a look you will have to want. Also pass if your household freezes in bulk: 4.06 cu ft is a top-freezer's usual share and it fills quickly with a few bags of vegetables and a couple of frozen meals. A bottom-freezer or a full-height freezer column gives more frozen volume for more money.

Also measure before ordering. The 32 3/4 inch depth plus the door swing is more than many older alcoves allow, and a fridge that sits eight inches proud of the counter will feel larger than its 29 1/2 inch width. If the space works, the finish works and you want an appliance you can plug in yourself with a technician on call under whichever term IKEA applies, the $749 price is easy to justify.
