OXO Angled Measuring Cup Review: The Useful Upgrade Is Where You Read It

The 2-cup model changes a familiar measuring motion. That convenience is worth buying only if volume measurements are part of your routine.

THE SHORT VERSION

The whole argument for this cup is that it changes where you look. Bend down to the counter, lift the jug to eye level, set it back: do that four times while making stock and the angled scale starts to look like a real improvement. Judge it against that motion and nothing else.

Buy the two-cup version — $13.99 on the US listing — and stop there. A kitchen does not become more capable because the measuring vessels match each other. The useful size is the one that covers your usual quantities and comes out of the cupboard without a fight.

Our verdict

A focused convenience for cooks who frequently measure liquids by volume; unnecessary if a readable jug already works well.

A good fit for
A cook who repeatedly changes position to check liquid markings and wants a dedicated medium-size cup.
We would skip it if
Your recipes primarily use weight, or you need a vessel for heating rather than measuring.

Reasons to consider it

  • The angled markings address a specific viewing inconvenience
  • A single medium cup avoids buying an entire matching set

The compromises

  • The angled scale is a viewing feature, not an accuracy claim
  • A two-cup limit can mean repeated fills for larger recipes

What we have not verified: Calibration, drips at the spout, legibility in poor light and the durability of the printed markings were not checked.

Worth it when reading the scale from above removes a bend you repeat most days.

Change the viewpoint, then check the actual visibility

OXO places cup, ounce, and milliliter markings on an angled interior surface intended to be read from above. The current model uses Tritan Renew plastic and a black grip. The feature is a way to see volume while filling; it is not independent evidence that the cup measures more accurately than an ordinary jug.

Visibility depends on your counter, not on the photograph. Stock is dark, your own shoulder throws a shadow over the cup while you pour, and a scale that reads clearly under showroom lighting can disappear under a wall cabinet. Look at one from your own standing position if you get the chance.

Buy for the repeated quantity, not the largest imagined meal

The two-cup capacity sits in a listed 7 by 4 by 4 inch body. That is a useful prompt to measure the storage space, including the handle. A compact cupboard can make an easy-to-read cup frustrating if several other objects must come out before you can reach it.

Think through a week of your own cooking. Mostly modest quantities, and hauling out a big jug each time is the thing to stop doing. Regular large batches, and a two-cup limit means refilling mid-recipe and losing count. Buy for the common case and borrow a bigger vessel for the exceptions.

Do not duplicate a measurement method you already prefer

Recipes written by weight are already solved by the kitchen scale you own: tare the bowl, pour, done, with nothing extra to wash. The cup pays for itself only when the recipes you actually cook are written in cups and milliliters, or when you need something to pour from afterwards.

Do not convert between volume and weight by assuming a milliliter of anything weighs a gram; honey and flour will punish that immediately. Follow the method the recipe specifies. A liquid cup also does nothing for inconsistent flour scooping, which is a technique problem wearing an equipment disguise.

Keep its job narrow enough to judge honestly

OXO marks the cup as top-rack dishwasher safe. The current listing we reviewed does not establish every heating use, so our recommendation covers measuring and pouring. Check the instructions supplied with the exact item before using it as a heating vessel instead of relying on answers about an older version.

The rule is simple: replace an annoying motion, not a working cup. After a month, check whether you reach for it in an ordinary week and whether the markings are still easy to read. If the answer to either is no, a matching set would not have helped.
