PetFusion Jumbo Cat Scratcher Lounge Review: Big Enough For A Multi-Cat House, Priced Like Furniture

The 39-inch reversible cardboard lounge that PetFusion rates for four large cats now sells through Petmate at $239.99. It solves the two-cats-one-scratcher problem and asks a lot of money for corrugated paper to do it.

THE SHORT VERSION

The PetFusion Cat Scratcher Lounge is a curved loop of stacked corrugated cardboard with a smooth outer shell, shaped so a cat can scratch the concave top, lie in the dip, or crawl through the middle. The Ultimate version at 33.9 inches is the one most people know. This review is about the Jumbo, 39 by 11 by 14.3 inches and 15 pounds, because the Ultimate is sold out at the brand's store and the Jumbo is the closest model still available. PetFusion is now a Petmate brand, and petmate.com is where it is sold in the US at $239.99 in white.

The Jumbo's pitch is capacity. PetFusion rates it for up to four large cats, and the extra five inches of length over the Ultimate are meant to let two adults share the top without one being pushed off. It is reversible, so when the top curve wears through you flip it and start on the underside, and a bag of organic catnip leaf is included to get a reluctant cat interested. The price is the sticking point, and the rest of this review keeps coming back to it.

Our verdict

A 15-pound cardboard lounge that several cats can share at once, sold by the brand's new owner at a $239.99 list price that is hard to square with the material.

A good fit for
A household with several adult cats that has already worn through smaller scratchers and wants one long, heavy piece they can all lie on.
We would skip it if
You have one cat, you shed cardboard crumbs badly enough already, or you would rather buy the 33.9-inch original once it is back in stock.

Reasons to consider it

  • 39 by 11 by 14.3 inches and 15 pounds, so it stays put under a cat that scratches hard
  • Reversible: flip it when the top curve wears and the underside becomes the new surface
  • Rated by PetFusion for up to four large cats, with organic catnip leaf in the box

The compromises

  • $239.99 for corrugated cardboard, and Petmate shows no discount on it
  • Neither the item's page nor Petmate's FAQ states a warranty for this item
  • The smaller Ultimate lounge, 33.9 inches and $149.99, is sold out on the same site, and petfusion.com itself no longer resolves to a store

What we have not verified: No cat used this lounge for this review. How fast the top face frays, how much cardboard debris it drops, and whether the white outer shell scuffs were not assessed, and Petmate publishes no material breakdown for this model.

Jumbo Cat Scratcher Lounge · White

Thirty-nine inches of curved cardboard, heavy enough at 15 pounds to resist being shoved across the floor, reversible for a second life, and rated by the brand for four large cats.

Before you buy: It costs $239.99 at list, Petmate states no warranty for it, and the sold-out 33.9-inch Ultimate is $90 cheaper if you can wait for it.

Thirty-nine inches and fifteen pounds

Petmate lists the Jumbo at 39 by 11 by 14.3 inches and 15 pounds, against 33.9 by 10.5 by 10.5 inches and 12.7 pounds for the Ultimate. The height figure is the one to notice: the Jumbo stands nearly four inches taller, which deepens the curve and raises the lying surface, and the mass is what keeps a heavy scratcher from walking across a hard floor when a large cat leans into it. Plan for a footprint slightly longer than a standard sofa cushion, and for a box that one person can carry but not comfortably under one arm.

PetFusion rates the Jumbo for up to four large cats. Read that as a load rating for the structure, not a promise about behavior; cats decide for themselves whether they will share. What the length does deliver is room for two adults on the top curve at once, or one on top and one in the tunnel beneath, which is the arrangement the shape encourages. In a single-cat home most of that length is unused, and the smaller model is the smarter purchase whenever it is in stock.

Two faces, one catnip bag, and a material list that is not published

The scratching surface on both faces is stacked corrugated cardboard, and the design is reversible: when the top curve has been shredded down, the loop is flipped and the former underside becomes the new top. That doubles the useful life for the price of remembering to turn it. The outer shell is white on the Jumbo, where the Ultimate is offered in gray, brown and white, and PetFusion says no assembly is needed and that materials are tested to international safety standards.

What the page leaves out is what the cardboard and glue are. PetFusion's smaller flip-pad scratcher on the same site is described as recycled cardboard bonded with corn starch glue, and it would be reasonable to expect the lounge to match, but the Jumbo listing makes no such claim and this review does not assume it. A bag of US-grown organic catnip leaf is included, which matters for cats that ignore a new scratcher until it smells like something; sprinkle it into the corrugations rather than on the smooth shell.

$239.99, and the $149.99 version you cannot buy today

Petmate's price for the Jumbo is $239.99 with no compare-at figure shown. The Ultimate is listed at $149.99, sold out in all three colors as of this check. The $90 gap separating them is large for five extra inches of length and about two pounds of cardboard, and it is the reason the Jumbo is hard to recommend to anyone who could wait for the smaller one to return. Petmate's shipping page says an out-of-stock item can be flagged for an email when it is back, which is the cheaper path for a one- or two-cat home.

Context on the brand helps explain the situation. PetFusion's own domain no longer serves a store, and the products, including the lounges, scratching post, litter boxes and window perch, are now listed under the PetFusion name on petmate.com. That means the price, stock and policies that apply are Petmate's, and any figure remembered from the old PetFusion site or from marketplace listings is not the maker's current one. The $239.99 is what the brand's owner charges, and this review does not treat other retailers' prices as the reference.

Ground in 3 to 5 business days, 30 days to return, no stated warranty

Petmate ships only inside the US. Ground delivery is quoted at 3 to 5 business days, with orders in the system by 11:00 AM Central shipping the next business day. Orders of $49 or more in the lower 48 states ship at no charge, but the policy excludes oversized items from that threshold and says freight charges, where they apply, appear at checkout; a 39-inch, 15-pound box is a candidate for that surcharge, so check the cart total before treating $239.99 as the final figure.

Returns run for a month from arrival of the order, refunded to the original payment method, and Petmate asks you to refuse a package that arrives visibly damaged or note the damage on signing so a carrier claim can be filed. Defective items can be exchanged or refunded inside the same 30 days. On warranty, Petmate's FAQ says coverage exists only on select products and is stated on the item's own page when it applies; the Jumbo's page states none, so treat this as a consumable with a return window and nothing beyond it. The FAQ also limits warranty and support to purchases from Petmate or its authorized dealers.

Skip it for one cat, or if $240 of cardboard sounds wrong to you

One cat does not need 39 inches of scratcher, and the extra length is the only thing the Jumbo adds over the Ultimate. If the smaller lounge comes back into stock at $149.99, it is the version to buy for a single cat or a pair that already share a bed. The Jumbo is also the wrong choice for a small apartment where the floor space next to the sofa is already spoken for, and for anyone whose cat sheds cardboard confetti across the room; a bigger scratcher makes more of it.

Buy the Jumbo when the constraint is bodies, not budget: three or four adult cats, at least one of them big enough to shove a lighter scratcher around, and a household that has already flipped and worn out a smaller lounge. In that case the mass, the length and the second face are worth having. Even then, price the shipping on a 15-pound box before checkout, and accept that Petmate offers no warranty on it beyond the return period.
