IKEA NISSAFORS Review: Plan Where It Parks Before You Fill It

A rolling cart is useful when an entire routine moves. Without a destination, it can turn scattered clutter into mobile clutter.

THE SHORT VERSION

A cart solves the awkward part of sharing a room: the setting up and the putting away of the same collection, twice a day. NISSAFORS is worth considering for that transition. It is a poor purchase as another horizontal surface for things that have no home, which is what most carts quietly become.

This assessment concerns the larger black 203.997.77 model, listed at $29.99 online when checked. IKEA also sells a narrower cart under the same name. Compare the article number and dimensions rather than relying on a photo or the family name, especially when the available gap is the reason you are buying.

Our verdict

Buy it for a defined indoor kit with a measured parking spot and a clear route between uses.

A good fit for
A household that moves a craft, office, or household supply kit between nearby work areas.
We would skip it if
You mainly need enclosed storage, have no parking spot, or would repeatedly carry the loaded unit on stairs.

Reasons to consider it

  • Three open levels can separate parts of one routine
  • Casters allow repositioning without unloading every item

The compromises

  • Floor space and turning room remain necessary
  • Open shelves do not contain dust or hide visual clutter

What we have not verified: Assembly, stability, how the casters cope with different floors and long-term durability are untested.

Right when a complete set of supplies has to travel between nearby rooms and come back.

Before you buy: Measure both its parking footprint and the route; the larger version is not the narrow model.

Price checked September 10, 2026. Retailer prices can change.

Measure the route as well as the destination

The listed outer dimensions are 19 7/8 by 11 3/4 by 32 5/8 inches. Draw that footprint on paper or mark it on the floor before ordering. Then consider the space needed to pull the cart out, turn it, and reach the shelves. An object can fit a gap while remaining awkward to use there.

Watch the route: a doorway, the legs of four dining chairs, the metal strip between kitchen tile and hall carpet. Wheels guarantee nothing about any of those. And if the kit only moves twice a month, a basket the house already owns delivers the useful half of the idea without adding furniture.

Organize by session rather than by spare capacity

Name the session the cart serves: the sewing setup, the drawing supplies, the paperwork that colonizes the table on Sunday evenings. Items earn a shelf by being used in that session. The moment unrelated objects start landing on the spare space, the cart stops being worth wheeling anywhere.

Try arranging the proposed contents on three temporary surfaces first. Keep frequently used items easy to reach and avoid making each lower level depend on lifting something from above. Small loose pieces may need their own suitable containers. Those additions should be chosen from the actual inventory, not bought as a matching storage set before you know what needs containing.

Respect the limits of open storage

IKEA lists a 15 lb maximum per shelf, indoor use, and no approval for food contact. Bathroom placement is limited to a splash- and water-free area. Its care advice includes wiping clean, drying, and retightening screws when needed. These are ownership requirements rather than evidence from our own durability testing.

Open shelves will not protect paper from a spilled glass, keep dust off anything delicate, or hide a collection that makes the room feel busy. A closed cabinet does all three and stays where it is put. Compare against the outcome you need, not against how many liters of storage the price appears to buy.

Buy only with a parking plan

The strongest purchase case is a kit that currently takes several trips to set up and already has a safe, accessible parking place. The weakest is a room with no clear floor area and a hope that more shelving will somehow create one. Rolling the obstruction aside does not remove it.

Finish by checking the delivered price and the exact article number, since a membership price in store is not automatically the price online. Load it lightly at first and follow the assembly sheet. Wheel behavior and stability were not verified here, so treat neither the styled photograph nor the published load figure as a promise about your own loaded cart.
