IKEA's US listing for the TROTTEN desk sit/stand in beige/white, article 894.341.27, showed a clearance price of $249.99 on September 11, 2026, down from $339.99 and marked as valid from April 21, 2026 while supply lasts. The frame is raised and lowered by a hand crank instead of a motor, and IKEA prints ten years of coverage and a contract-grade badge beside the price. For comparison, the fixed-height TROTTEN in white is $149.99 and the MARKUS office chair reviewed separately here is $299.99.
The listing is unusually specific about the frame and unusually vague about how much effort the crank takes. It names every metal part and its coating, gives a 110 lb load rating, and offers two different height ranges in two different places. It does not say how many turns cover the full travel, whether the desk should be anchored, or what the top weighs once assembled. the analysis here works from the page, the separate underframe page, and IKEA's US warranty summary.
Our verdict
At the $249.99 clearance price the TROTTEN sit/stand is the least expensive way IKEA sells a desk that moves, and the crank is a feature for a buyer who changes height a few times a day, not a flaw; the 110 lb load rating and the beige top that reviewers on the listing call gray are the two things to settle before ordering.
- A good fit for
- A home or small-office worker who wants a contract-grade desk that can be set for sitting or standing without a power cord under it, who moves between the two positions a handful of times a day, and who can carry a 38 lb frame package indoors.
- We would skip it if
- You plan to change height many times an hour, you need more than 110 lb of monitors and gear on the top, you want a memory preset, or you need a surface wider than 47 1/4 inches.
Reasons to consider it
- Ten years of coverage on a desk marked down to $249.99 from $339.99, with contract-grade testing to ANSI/BIFMA x5.5-2008 and EN 527-2 and -3
- The crank mounts on the left or right and slides under the top when not in use, and adjustable feet handle an uneven floor
- A two-part product: the 405.073.42 underframe is sold on its own and stretches from 47 1/4 to 63 inches, so a wider top can be fitted later
The compromises
- The feature text says 27 1/2 to 47 1/4 inches; the measurement table says 28 3/8 to 48 inches, a difference of about an inch at each end
- Max load is 110 lb across the whole top, lower than most motorized frames, and the tabletop is particleboard with melamine foil, not solid wood or laminate over MDF
- The clearance price is described as valid only while supply lasts, and the beige top reads as gray to at least one reviewer on the listing
What we have not verified: No cranking, no wobble test at full height, no load test, and no reading of the assembly PDF for anchoring or turn-count instructions; the discrepancy between the two published height ranges was not resolved, the clearance end date is unknown, and delivery pricing was not checked for any ZIP code.
The things in this guide
A closer look at the products, who they may suit, and what to check before buying.

TROTTEN Desk Sit/Stand
A contract-grade desk with ten years of coverage and a side-mounted crank for $249.99 is hard to match, and the underframe can take a longer top later.
Before you buy: manual height changes only, a 110 lb ceiling, and a beige top that at least one reviewer on the listing sees as gray.
Price checked September 11, 2026. Retailer prices can change. What $249.99 buys and how it shows up
The desk is a bundle of two articles: tabletop 504.748.45 and underframe 405.073.42, shipped as two packages. The top package is 50 3/4 by 29 1/2 by 1 inch and weighs 26 lb 7 oz; the frame package is 28 by 10 by 3 1/2 inches and weighs 38 lb 2 oz. Sold on its own, the underframe was $190.00 on the same day, also on clearance from $280.00, which makes the beige top worth roughly $60 inside the bundle.
Set beside the rest of the range, the pricing is clear. The fixed-height TROTTEN in white, the same 47 1/4 by 27 1/2 inch footprint at a fixed 29 1/2 inches, is $149.99. The extra $100 buys the crank frame, the ability to stand, and the same 110 lb load rating. IKEA states the clearance price is valid from April 21, 2026 while supply lasts, so the $339.99 previous price is the figure to budget for if stock runs out.
The crank, the height range and the inch that moves
IKEA's feature text says the height adjusts between 27 1/2 and 47 1/4 inches by cranking the handle. The measurement table on the same page gives a minimum of 28 3/8 inches and a maximum of 48 inches. The underframe page repeats 27 1/2 to 47 1/4 inches, so the smaller figures appear to describe the frame alone and the larger ones the frame with the 1 inch top on it, but the page never says so. A sitter who needs the top at exactly 28 inches should treat the lower number with caution.
The crank handle can be mounted on the left or the right, and it slides in under the top when not in use, which keeps a knee from finding it. The feet are adjustable for uneven floors. What the listing does not give is the number of turns from bottom to top or the effort at 110 lb of load, so a buyer who expects to stand up several times an hour is guessing about how tedious that will be. The frame length runs from 47 1/4 to 63 inches, which is how IKEA fits the same underframe to its 120 by 70 cm and 160 by 80 cm tops.
Materials, the 110 lb ceiling and the contract-grade badge
The tabletop is particleboard with a melamine foil surface and plastic edging. The frame is more carefully described: feet, center support beam, legs, side rails and crank are steel with an epoxy/polyester powder coating, the shaft is galvanized steel, the lifting tube is aluminum and the handle is reinforced polyamide. The max load is 110 lb for the assembled desk, which covers two monitors, a laptop and a dock with room to spare but rules out a heavy printer or a stack of reference books at the far edge.
IKEA says the desk has been tested for office use to EN 527-2:2002, EN 527-3:2003 and ANSI/BIFMA x5.5-2008, and the top separately to EN 15372 and ANSI/BIFMA X5.5, which is why IKEA prints a contract-grade mark beside the price. That testing covers safety, durability and stability rather than stiffness at full height, and nothing IKEA publishes describes how much the top moves when leaned on at 48 inches. The care notes ask for a wipe with a mild cleaner followed by a dry cloth, and the frame page adds a regular check that all fastenings are tight.
Ten years of coverage, assembly and what the listing leaves out
TROTTEN desks appear by name in IKEA's US summary of office furniture coverage, which describes a ten-year limited promise against material, workmanship and function defects on all main parts, valid for residential and commercial office use. The exclusions are the usual ones: incorrect storage or assembly, misuse, alteration, wrong cleaning products, normal wear, scratches and impact damage. The original receipt is required for a claim, and coverage starts on the day of purchase, so keep the order confirmation with the assembly booklet.
Assembly instructions are linked for the underframe as a PDF, and the listing notes that the desk can be used with SIGNUM cable trunking to keep cords off the floor. The page has no anchoring note, which is consistent with a freestanding desk but not proof that the booklet omits one, since the PDF was not read for this review. Assembly time, the number of fasteners and whether one person can flip the finished desk upright are all unstated; with a 38 lb frame and a 26 lb top, plan for a second person at the end.
When to skip it
Skip the sit/stand TROTTEN if you intend to change height many times an hour. A hand crank suits a worker who sits for the morning and stands after lunch; it does not suit someone following a timer, and there is no preset to return to a saved position. Also pass if your setup already weighs close to 110 lb, since that is the published ceiling for the whole top and the page offers no margin above it.
The color is the other reason to pause. The top is listed as beige, and one owner comment under the listing names the color an office gray in person, so a buyer who chose beige for warmth should see it in a store first. If the standing function is not needed, the $149.99 fixed-height TROTTEN in white delivers the same footprint and the same load rating for $100 less, and the ten-year coverage applies to it too.
