Levoit sells the Classic 300S Ultrasonic Smart Humidifier direct at $71.99, in stock on 2026-09-14, as a 6 L / 1.58 gal top-fill ultrasonic unit rated at 26 W with up to 60 hours of mist on the low setting. The listed spec covers more ground than most humidifier pages bother with: 215–505 ft² / 20–47 m² of effective range, 9.6 x 7.5 x 13.4 in, 4.3 lb / 2 kg, noise at ≤ 30 dB, a rotating nozzle, and an Auto Mode that holds 40–50% relative humidity off its own sensor. The carton carries the humidifier, three aroma pads with one pre-installed, a cleaning brush, the user manual, and a quick start guide; a water filter sponge ships seated inside the tank. The "smart" half is 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi plus the free VeSync app, with Alexa and Google Assistant along for the ride.
The value splits cleanly, and the tank is the part that matters. Six liters carried through the night without refilling, a low-mist rating that covers five 12-hour nights per fill, and a unit that flashes its no-water indicator ten times and then shuts itself off — that is what the $71.99 mostly buys. The app adds a timer, a custom humidity target, remote control, and voice commands, none of which bedroom humidification requires, since the buttons already run every mist level, Auto Mode, Sleep Mode, and the night light. What keeps costing after checkout is discipline: the manual asks for fresh water daily and a weekly clean with 710 mL of white vinegar, and in a hard-water house it pushes the tank toward distilled water as well.
Our verdict
Buy the $71.99 Classic 300S for nights of mist without nightly refills and a weekly vinegar clean. Skip it where water is hard or nobody will clean weekly; the app changes neither mist nor maintenance.
- A good fit for
- A bedroom inside the 215–505 ft² range where the humidifier runs all night, with an owner who will change the water daily, do the weekly vinegar clean, buy distilled water where the tap is hard, and give it 12 in / 30 cm of clearance on a hard surface.
- We would skip it if
- The room already sits above 60% relative humidity, the only workable spot is on carpet or tight against a wall with mist aimed at bedding, or the weekly clean and daily water changes will not happen — the manual's schedule is unconditional, and improper maintenance voids the 2-year warranty.
Reasons to consider it
- Every planning figure is published: 6 L / 1.58 gal, 26 W at AC 120 V, 215–505 ft², 9.6 x 7.5 x 13.4 in, 4.3 lb, and up to 60 hours on low mist, identical across the page and the manual
- Every core function runs from the buttons — Auto, Low, Medium, High, Sleep Mode, the night light — and the unit shuts itself off after the no-water indicator flashes ten times
- No scheduled consumables: the included water filter sponge rinses clean weekly, and the descale routine is 710 mL of distilled white vinegar with 15–20 minute soaks and the included brush
The compromises
- Runtime is published for low mist only, with the manual's own note that temperature and humidity move it; no mist output per hour appears in either document, and noise is a single ≤ 30 dB claim with no level breakdown
- The store's cross-sell row adds a $14.99 descaling-pad 10-pack whose own page restricts compatibility to the LV600S, OasisMist and LV600HH models built around heating plates and omits the Classic 300S
- Ownership is a schedule: daily water changes, a weekly clean, 12 in / 30 cm of wall clearance, mist aimed away from bedding and furniture, and no running in rooms above 60% relative humidity
What we have not verified: Mist output per hour appears in neither document, so refill cadence on Medium, High, or Auto is bounded only by the low-mist rating, and the 60-hour figure itself carries the manual's caveat that environmental temperature and humidity lengthen or shorten it. Noise exists as one ceiling, ≤ 30 dB, with no per-level curve. The water filter sponge's replacement price is unpublished — the manual routes replacement requests through customer support.
The things in this guide
A closer look at the products, who they may suit, and what to check before buying.

Classic 300S Ultrasonic Smart Humidifier
For $71.99 direct, the buyer gets the 6 L / 1.58 gal tank, 26 W of ultrasonic mist rated up to 60 hours on low, auto shut-off after the no-water indicator flashes ten times, and a 2-year limited Arovast warranty, with the water filter sponge included and no scheduled consumable to buy.
Before you buy: Runtime is published for low mist only, under the manual's note that temperature and humidity move it; noise is a single ≤ 30 dB claim; cleaning is weekly with vinegar; and the app's timer, custom target humidity, and voice control need a 2.4 GHz network and a VeSync account.
Price checked September 14, 2026. Retailer prices can change. The spec sheet: six liters, sixty hours on low, one noise number
The page and the manual agree line for line on the planning numbers: a 1.58 gal / 6 L tank, 26 W at AC 120 V and 60 Hz, 9.6 x 7.5 x 13.4 in, 4.3 lb / 2 kg, and 215–505 ft² / 20–47 m² of effective range. The runtime figure is 'up to 60 hours on low mist setting,' and the manual attaches its own qualifier to the runtime figure: the unit 'may run for a longer or shorter time depending on the environmental temperature and humidity.' Sixty hours on low is five 12-hour nights per fill, which is the working number for a bedroom. On Medium, High, or Auto the documents publish no runtime at all, and neither gives a mist output in mL per hour or gallons per day, so fill-to-fill predictions beyond low rest on the one rating. Sizing is generous for the intended room: an ordinary bedroom sits far below the 505 ft² top of the range.
Noise is a single claim — ≤ 30 dB per the listing, 30 dB in the manual — with no breakdown by mist level, so a light sleeper gets a manufacturer's ceiling, not a curve. Power draw at least rounds to nothing: 26 W for a 12-hour night is 0.312 kWh. One more planning item sits outside the numbers: the page's 360° nozzle turns in any direction, which matters for aiming the plume away from the bed and the nightstand instead of across the blankets.
The weekly clean: vinegar, a brush, and no filter schedule
The care schedule is the real price tag on this machine. Water gets changed daily 'to avoid bacteria growth,' the nozzle gets wiped regularly, and the entire unit gets cleaned 'every week, and when you're ready to store it' — no dishwasher, no detergents, the base never immersed. Descaling comes with exact quantities: fill the tank with 3 US cups / 710 mL of distilled white vinegar, swish it, set the tank back on the base, and soak 15–20 minutes so the vinegar drains through and loosens scale in the base chamber, on the transducer, and on the float; the float, water filter, and noise silencer come out and soak separately for another 15–20 minutes before the included brush finishes the job. Nowhere in that schedule is a filter to buy on a calendar. The water filter sponge ships seated in the tank, gets rinsed during the weekly clean, and is replaced only when mist runs weak — a request the manual routes through customer support; neither document states the price.
The accessories shelf sorts itself into one good buy and one trap. The aroma pads are the good buy: three ship in the box, they rinse clean for reuse, and a 16-pack at $14.99 is roughly 94 cents a pad, with Levoit's own accessory page listing the Classic 300S as compatible — though the manual's caveat stands, that the aroma 'is intended to be light' and the machine 'is not an aroma diffuser,' with 8–10 drops on the pad and oil never in the tank. The descaling pads are the trap: the Classic 300S page recommends them under 'Usually Purchased with' at $14.99 for ten, but the pads' own page scopes compatibility to the LV600S, OasisMist 450S, OasisMist 600S, and LV600HH, describes protecting a heating plate this ultrasonic unit does not have, and never lists the Classic 300S; a pad is said to last 2–4 weeks depending on water hardness, for the models it fits. For this one, descaling is the vinegar soak above. The recurring cost that actually varies by household is water: the manual recommends purified or distilled water, and its own white-dust troubleshooting repeats the advice for anyone with mineral-heavy tap water.
What the buttons run without Wi-Fi, and what the app adds
With the VeSync app left uninstalled, the Classic 300S still runs as a complete humidifier. The button panel cycles Auto, Low, Medium, and High; Auto Mode reads the onboard sensor and adjusts mist to hold 40–50% relative humidity, with Automatic Stop on by default so the unit stops misting at the top of the target band and restarts when humidity falls; Sleep Mode drops mist to Auto with the display and night light off, and the night light itself toggles 50%, 100%, and Off. The no-water and tank-removed protections are hardware behavior. A buyer after a plain humidifier can ignore the smart half without losing function.
Four functions live only in the app: the timer, which the booklet says 'must be set in the VeSync app' although the display carries a timer indicator; a custom target humidity outside the 40–50% default; schedules and remote on/off; and Alexa or Google voice, which needs a full VeSync account rather than a guest login. The setup constraints are ordinary but real — 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only, Bluetooth on during pairing, phone within 30 ft / 10 m. Whether 'smart' is worth money at Levoit has no clean answer at the moment: the catalog lists the NeoClassic 450 at $49.99 against the 450S smart twin at $59.99, ten dollars apart, but both showed unavailable when checked on 2026-09-14, and no non-smart Classic 300S exists to set beside it. On this model the question costs nothing whichever way it goes — the app rides along with the hardware, and skipping it leaves the timer, the custom target, and voice commands unused rather than paid for.
Placement limits, the two-year backstop, and who should skip
The placement rules deserve measuring before checkout. The manual wants the unit at least 12 in / 30 cm from any walls, on a hard, water-resistant, level surface — floors, carpets, and rugs are named off-limits because they can block the air inlet — with the nozzle aimed away from walls, furniture, bedding, and appliances, since the mist settles where it lands. Rooms already above 60% relative humidity get a warning in the condensation troubleshooting: avoid running it there. The listing also prints a California Proposition 65 warning for lead exposure; the label names no component, but it is on the record.
The warranty is a 2-year limited term from Arovast Corporation, the distributor behind Levoit: defects in material and workmanship, original consumer purchaser only, not transferable, and nothing bought through an unauthorized seller is covered — the page's own fine print warns that unauthorized listings can be counterfeit or used. Remedies run refund, repair, or replacement with a product of equal or greater value; registration at warranty.levoit.com is optional and not required to claim, but an unregistered claim needs proof of purchase, and the manual asks for the order invoice and order ID in hand before any call to support. Levoit adds a 30-day money-back guarantee and free shipping on the direct listing. The buy conditions follow from the numbers: a bedroom inside the 215–505 ft² range, someone to change the water daily and run the weekly vinegar clean, and distilled or purified water where the tap runs hard. Skip it when the room sits above 60% relative humidity, the only spot for it is against a wall or on carpet with mist pointed at the bed, or the weekly clean is not going to happen — a neglected ultrasonic tank grows what the manual's daily-change rule exists to prevent, and improper maintenance sits in the warranty's exclusion list.
