Matador FlatPak Soap Case Review: Buy It for Packing, Treat Drying as a Claim

The V2 case is an intriguing small accessory for established bar-soap users. A breathable-fabric description does not tell us when a wet bar will be dry.

THE SHORT VERSION

The FlatPak makes sense when packing a wet bar of soap is already a recurring annoyance — hotel changes every second night, or a gym bag five times a week. It makes no sense as grounds for switching from liquid soap in the first place.

The black V2 was $13 when checked. The case for it is the flexible format. Matador also promises the bar dries through the fabric; that mechanism was not tested here, and it is a poor thing to plan a 6 a.m. departure around.

Our verdict

Worth considering for frequent moves with bar soap; unnecessary if a current case already travels cleanly.

A good fit for
A traveler who already uses bar soap and wants a flexible container shaped around that habit.
We would skip it if
You expect a guaranteed overnight drying time, prefer liquid toiletries, or need a rigid protective box.

Reasons to consider it

  • The flexible format accommodates a changing bar shape
  • A low published weight suits a small toiletry kit

The compromises

  • Drying and leakproof performance remain unverified here
  • A soft case provides less physical separation than a rigid box

What we have not verified: Drying time, leakage under a packed bag and behavior with different soaps are unknown.

A targeted packing accessory

Worth it when bar soap is already in the kit and the current case keeps causing the same packing problem.

Before you buy: Drying speed and leakage under luggage pressure are unverified. Try it at home with your own soap first.

Shop the current case, not a remembered specification

Matador lists the current V2 at 13g and approximately 10 by 9 by 4cm, with a rolltop closure and a 70D ripstop nylon body. Older descriptions of similarly named cases may refer to other materials or dimensions. Match the exact listing before comparing specifications.

Measure the largest bar you actually buy against the space the case needs to roll shut properly. A pouch that only closes by squashing its contents has not solved anything. Changing soap to fit an accessory is the wrong way round.

Breathable is not a drying timetable

The brand describes a leakproof material that allows a soap bar to dry through the case. That is the central manufacturer claim. It does not give us independent evidence that every bar will be dry by the next morning, or that drying occurs equally well in every packed toiletry bag.

What matters is how it behaves with your soap on your schedule. A bar used once and left open on a shelf is a different case from one soaked and sealed twenty minutes later, every day, for a week. Test the second one before trusting the description.

Flexibility saves a shape, not every inconvenience

A soft container shrinks with its contents instead of holding the shape of an empty box, which is exactly what you want as the bar wears down. The cost is that everything packed around it presses in. This is not armor for anything fragile.

Consider where it sits in the bag and that it gets handled with wet hands. A rolltop wants the same closing routine every time. The format is worth it only if that routine survives the rushed morning after the last shower.

A useful accessory should remove an existing nuisance

If the plastic soap box already shuts properly, fits the kit and washes out, keep it. The FlatPak has to fix a problem you can name. Buying three because a flat-lay photograph looked orderly is not that.

For someone who travels with bar soap often, one case is a cheap experiment. Run it at home with the usual bar and the usual interval, then look at what is around it in the bag. A disappointing trial outweighs 13g and a good story about the fabric.
