In this guide
A product's name can carry a date. GoPro numbers its flagships, HERO9 Black through HERO13 Black in its own comparison tool, but sells the $204.99 small camera as plain HERO. Tuft & Needle sells the $699 Queen Original Mattress II beside a 2024 Original Mattress and a Legacy Edition, three generations on one menu. Ridge sells the $95 aluminum wallet under a listing its store data dates to 2014 and describes the current body as Wallet 2.0. Logitech G lists the G305 at $59.99 in all five of its colors, with no generation, no year and no predecessor named in its copy.
Those four labeling habits are the timing signal read here. A numbered line tells you a successor is expected and roughly how the maker will announce it. A model year in the name tells you the maker retires by calendar. A 2.0 inside an unchanged listing tells you revisions arrive silently and the URL will not warn you. And a product with no version at all tells you either that nothing has changed or that the maker does not say, which are different situations with the same page. What follows is what each maker's pages record, and what that means for buying this month.
The things in this guide
A closer look at the products, who they may suit, and what to check before buying.

HERO (CHDHF-131) · Compact 4K Action Camera
GoPro's store names the $204.99 camera HERO with no year or number, its comparison tool lists the numbered flagships from HERO9 Black to HERO13 Black, and the NEW badge on the cameras page sits on the MISSION 1 series and not on any HERO14, so the small HERO has no announced successor in GoPro's lineup.
Before you buy: GoPro publishes no launch date for the HERO and no statement that it will or will not be replaced; the FAQ defines it only against HERO13 Black, at 35% less volume and 46% less mass, and notes it does not accept the HB-Series lenses.

T&N Original Mattress II, Queen
The Original Mattress II is listed under New Mattresses at $699 in Queen with store data showing it published on August 13, 2026, while the Legacy Mattresses menu still carries the 2024 Original Mattress at $945 in Queen and a Legacy Edition at $699; the FAQ states the new build is slightly firmer and 2 inches taller.
Before you buy: Tuft & Needle gives no cadence beyond those labels, so nothing on the pages says whether a III follows in two years or ten; the 36,307 ratings on the II page predate a build that is a month old.

Ridge Wallet · Aluminum, Gunmetal
Ridge's Gunmetal wallet page describes the product as Ridge Wallet 2.0, 10% lighter with a plated cash strap and oil-filled logos, but the listing record was created on August 27, 2014 according to the store's product data and carries the tags 2.0 launch and 2.0 Wallet, so the revision arrived without a new name, URL or price.
Before you buy: The page prints no launch date for 2.0, the only date near it is the October 14, 2025 start of the Built for Life warranty, and Ridge does not state whether the elastic, screws and plates of the previous body interchange with the new one.

G305 Lightspeed Wireless Gaming Mouse · Black
The G305 page carried one price, $59.99, for all five colors on the 2026-10-04 re-check, and prints no generation, year or predecessor; its HERO sensor copy claims a tenfold efficiency gain over the sensor generation before it, while Logitech G's own Technology menu now lists HERO 2.
Before you buy: Logitech leaves unsaid whether the G305 has been revised since launch or will be, so the absence of a version label is silence, not a promise; and the price on this listing has already moved once, since the black and white units were struck from a $59.99 list on 2026-09-11 and carry nothing struck on 2026-10-04.

GoPro numbers. Its comparison selector runs HERO9 Black, HERO10 Black, HERO11 Black, HERO12 Black, HERO13 Black, and a numbered line is a promise of a next number; the small HERO sits in that list without one. Tuft & Needle does both: the II is a numbered generation, and the models it replaced are filed under Legacy with a model year in their names, 2024 Original Mattress and 2024 Mint Mattress. Ridge revises in place; the Gunmetal page says Ridge Wallet 2.0 while the listing, URL and $95 price are the ones the store has carried since 2014. Logitech G marks nothing on the G305: no number, no year, no note of what came before.
Each habit sets a different expectation for the buyer holding a credit card. A numbered line will be superseded by a public announcement with a new name, and the old number then drops in price or drops out. A year in the name expires on the calendar, whatever the product does. A silent 2.0 can be followed by a silent 2.1, and the only trace will be new copy on an old page. An unmarked product is either stable or quietly revised, and the page cannot tell you which; the surrounding pages, like a technology menu that has moved on, sometimes can.
GoPro: the HERO carries no number, and the numbered line stops at 13
The $204.99 camera is named HERO in the page title and in the structured product data GoPro embeds for search engines; no year and no digit follow it. GoPro's FAQ defines it by subtraction from HERO13 Black, 35% less volume and 46% less mass, and by what it lacks, the HB-Series lens mount. The 86 g weight and the built-in battery in the tech specs are the reasons it is the small one. Neither page says when it launched or when it will be revised, which is unusual for a maker whose flagship naming has counted up by one for years.
The timing evidence is in the lineup page, not on the HERO's own listing. The NEW badges sit on the MISSION 1 series and MISSION 1 PRO ILS; the numbered flagships on the page are HERO13 Black and HERO12 Black, and there is no HERO14 anywhere in the comparison selector. So the family that used to refresh by number now has a new top name, and the small HERO is neither numbered nor superseded. For a buyer that reads two ways: the unnumbered camera is not about to become last year's by GoPro's labels, and the flagship whose price would push it down has been replaced by something with a different name and, presumably, a different price band.
Tuft & Needle: three generations of one mattress on the menu at once
The Original Mattress II is the clearest case of a maker publishing its own version history. Tuft & Needle's copy names it the newest version of the mattress that put the company on the map, the FAQ answers what changed between the new and old version, a slightly firmer build in response to customer feedback and a profile 2 inches taller, and the store's product record shows the II published on August 13, 2026. The navigation files the II under New Mattresses and puts the 2024 Original Mattress, the 2024 Original Hybrid, the 2024 Mint and the 2024 Mint Hybrid under Legacy Mattresses, next to a Legacy Edition of the older, simpler design.
The prices do not line up with the ages. The II is $699 in Queen. The 2024 Original Mattress, published September 30, 2024 and now a legacy model, is $945 in Queen, $246 more than the build that replaced it. The Legacy Edition, published May 15, 2026 and described as back by popular demand, is $699. A buyer who assumed the year-named model was the bargain because it is older would pay the most for the one the maker has filed away. Here the version label does the price work: the newest build is also the one to buy, the one-month-old II, and the year in a name is a retirement notice, not a markdown.
Ridge and Logitech G: a 2.0 hidden in an old listing, and a mouse with no label at all
Ridge's Gunmetal page reads like a launch page, with Say Hello to 2.0, 10% lighter, oil-filled logos and a plated cash strap, but the container is old. The store's product record was created on August 27, 2014, its tags include 2.0 launch and 2.0 Wallet alongside black-friday-2023, and the price is $95 with one Cash Strap variant. The page prints no date for the 2.0 revision. The nearest date is October 14, 2025, the start of the Built for Life warranty program, which Ridge calls new beside the 2.0. Neither the URL, name nor price says which body a retailer's older stock contains, and Ridge leaves unsaid whether the two share parts.
The G305 is the opposite problem. As re-read on 2026-10-04, the page carried $59.99 for all five colors, with nothing struck and no percentage shown, and the only offer beside the price required a second mouse, keyboard or headset, so it discounts nothing about this mouse on its own. The copy calls the HERO sensor ten times as power-efficient as the generation before it and gives no word on the mouse's own generation, launch or revisions, while the site's Technology menu lists HERO 2. Dates do appear on the listing, just not in the copy a shopper reads: Logitech files the product gallery under an asset folder named 2025-update and the lifestyle shots under 2026-update.
What each label means for a purchase this month
Put the four on one line by risk of becoming last year's. The Original Mattress II is a month old by the store's product record and its predecessors are filed as legacy, so it is the safest on timing; the risk is the opposite, that the II's ratings count describes the older build. The HERO has no named successor and its family's next step is a new series, so the camera is stable but its price ceiling, set by the numbered flagship, has moved to a differently named product. The Ridge wallet is already the revised body under an unchanged name, so the buying risk is stock, not timing: a reseller's older unit looks identical on the invoice.
The G305 carries the most timing risk of the four because its copy states no generation, launch or revision; the only dates are asset-folder names. A sensor the maker succeeded elsewhere and a listing with no version fit a product about to be replaced, and equally one that runs unchanged. The price no longer offsets that risk: this URL read $39.99 with $59.99 struck through in September and $59.99 flat across five colors on 2026-10-04. That is the rule the four labels produce. Where a maker prints the generation, buy the newest number; where it prints a year, treat the year as an expiry; where it prints nothing, the 30-day return is the fallback.
When to skip
Skip the HERO if what you want is the numbered camera's feature set at a post-refresh price: GoPro's newest line is MISSION 1, not HERO14, so there is no announced event that pushes HERO13 Black down, and the small HERO was never priced against it. Skip the Original Mattress II if you were choosing it as the older, cheaper option; it is the newest build and the same $699 as the Legacy Edition, and the year-named 2024 model is the expensive one at $945.
Skip the Ridge wallet from any seller that cannot say which body ships, since Ridge's own listing does not distinguish the 2.0 from what preceded it by name, URL or price, and buy from Ridge if the 2.0 changes matter to you. Skip the G305 if you need the maker's current sensor generation, because the page names HERO and the technology menu names HERO 2; keep it on the list if a $59.99 mouse with a 250-hour battery is the whole requirement and a silent successor would not bother you.
