The Aeros Ultralight is the bottom rung of Sea to Summit's air pillow range and the one the brand aims at people who weigh their toothbrush. The Regular size is listed at $49.95 in the US, weighs 55 g on its own and 57 g with the stuff sack, and packs to a 3 by 3 by 3 in lump that the maker compares to an egg. Inflated it measures 13 by 10 in with up to 11 cm of height, and the base is scalloped so it nests inside the hood of a mummy bag.
What you give up for that weight is padding. The pillow is a TPU-laminated bladder with a brushed recycled-polyester face on top and a nylon base underneath; there is no foam, no synthetic fill, no down. The Aeros Premium sits $5 higher at $54.95 and adds a memory foam layer under a stretch-knit cover, at 99 g. The decision is that simple: 44 g against a softer surface, and whichever matters more to you on night three is the one to buy.
Our verdict
The lightest pillow Sea to Summit makes is a sensible $49.95 for a backpacker counting grams, provided the sleeper accepts a bare air bladder under a thin brushed fabric instead of any padding.
- A good fit for
- A thru-hiker or bikepacker who has already cut the rest of the sleep system down and wants a pillow that disappears into a hip-belt pocket at 2 oz packed.
- We would skip it if
- You sleep on your side on a firm mat, you car camp with weight to spare, or you dislike the crinkle and bounce of an unpadded air pillow.
Reasons to consider it
- 55 g for the Regular size, 57 g with its stuff sack, and a packed size of about 3 in on each axis
- Mini XPRESS valve for quick inflation, deflation and firmness adjustment up to 11 cm of loft
- Scalloped base shaped to sit inside a sleeping bag hood, with 3M PillowLock patches in the bag
The compromises
- No foam or fill layer, so comfort rests wholly on air pressure and the brushed face fabric
- 13 by 10 in is a small surface, and the Large adds 5 in of length for $5 and 25 g
- PillowLock patches only work on mats that take the adhesive, and Sea to Summit says most, not all
What we have not verified: The pillow was not slept on for this review; valve durability, seam life, how loud the fabric is at night and whether the patches hold on a given mat were not assessed.
The things in this guide
A closer look at the products, who they may suit, and what to check before buying.

Aeros Ultralight Pillow · Regular, Beluga
At 57 g packed, with a fast silicone-flap valve, a hood-friendly scalloped shape and adhesive patches to stop it sliding off the mat, it is the lightest way to get 11 cm of loft under your head.
Before you buy: It is air and fabric only, the Regular surface is 13 by 10 in, and the Moonstruck color in Regular was sold out at seatosummit.com when checked.

Sea to Summit publishes the numbers by size. The Regular weighs 55 g, or 1.9 oz, and 57 g with the polyester stuff sack; packed it is 7 by 6.5 by 6.5 cm, which the brand rounds to 3 by 3 by 3 in. The Large is 80 g bare and 85 g packed, inflates to 18 by 12 by 5 in, and costs $54.95, five dollars more than the Regular. Both sizes reach the same loft class, with the Regular rated to 11 cm and the Large to 12 cm.
For context, the Aeros Premium Regular is 99 g bare and 104 g packed at 11 by 8 by 8 cm, so the Ultralight saves 44 g and packs to well under half the volume. Those are small numbers in absolute terms. They only matter if the rest of the kit has already been trimmed, which is the audience the maker names on the page: backpacking, bikepacking and thru-hiking, not car camping.
A scalloped base, a mini valve and a brushed face
The shape does more work than the fabric. The underside is scalloped so the pillow curves around your shoulders instead of perching on top of them, and the top surface is slightly concave to keep your head centered. Sea to Summit says the Regular fits inside the hood of a technical sleeping bag, which is the main way an air pillow stops wandering off in the night. The second way is the included 3M PillowLock patches, which stick to a mat and grip the pillow base; the maker says they adhere to most camping mats.
Inflation runs through a mini XPRESS valve with a silicone flap, so a few breaths fill it, a press lets air out in controlled amounts to tune firmness, and it dumps quickly in the morning. The face is a brushed 100% polyester with a TPU laminate, made from certified recycled fiber; the base is 100% nylon with TPU. The laminate is a polyether TPU, chosen because it resists hydrolysis, the slow breakdown that turns older polyester-urethane bladders sticky.
Lifetime coverage for defects, sixty days to change your mind
Sea to Summit covers its products for manufacturing defects for the intended lifespan of the pillow in ordinary use, to the first purchaser with a receipt from the brand or an authorized dealer. The exclusions are the usual ones and they matter for an air pillow: wear and tear, breakdown of materials with age or environmental conditions, and damage from misuse or accident are not covered, so a puncture is on you. Remedies are limited to repair, replacement or credit, and claims go through an online form with photos or by phone during Mountain Time business hours. The brand also runs a paid repair and spare-parts service for items outside coverage.
Direct purchases from seatosummit.com qualify for return for 60 days after buying in unused condition with original packaging, and the refund is reduced by a $5 return label charge. Items bought from a dealer go back through that dealer, and second-hand or REI Garage Sale items are excluded from both returns and coverage. Note that the Like New used listings on brother-usa.com fall outside the standard terms as well.
Skip it if comfort is the point of the pillow
This pillow exists to be forgotten in a pack, not to be enjoyed. If your trips involve a car, a canoe or a base camp, the 44 g you save over the Aeros Premium buys you nothing you will notice, and the foam layer on the Premium is worth far more than its $5 premium in that setting. Side sleepers on thin or firm pads should be especially wary of any pillow that is purely air, since the pressure that gives it height also gives it bounce.
Also pass if your mat rejects the adhesive patches or you already use a pillow that lives inside the hood of your bag. And if you want the Moonstruck color in Regular, it was sold out at seatosummit.com when checked; Aqua Sea, Turkish Tile and Beluga were in stock. For anyone who has weighed the rest of the kit and found nothing left to cut, though, 57 g for 11 cm of loft is the deal the Ultralight offers, and no other pillow in the range beats it.
