Speedo Vanquisher 3.0 Goggles Review: The 2.0 Is Gone and Its Replacement Costs $28

Speedo no longer lists the Vanquisher 2.0 in its US store. The Vanquisher 3.0 that replaced it sells for $28 in smoke or clear, $32 mirrored and $34 with prescription lenses, on a listing that names a UV figure but skips materials, fit dimensions and any warranty.

THE SHORT VERSION

Search for the Speedo Vanquisher 2.0 today and the manufacturer's US store returns only its successor. The Adult Vanquisher 3.0 Goggles sell for $28 in black with a smoke lens, and the listing text itself describes the change: Ocular 360-degree lenses that Speedo says add 14% to the field of view compared with the 2.0, straps that are stronger, flatter and wider, and a slide-and-lock nose bridge.

So this review is about the goggle you can actually buy. The 3.0 comes in one adult size, four lens types priced from $28 to $34, and a specification block that lists exactly four items. What follows sorts the facts Speedo states from the ones it leaves out, because for a goggle the missing ones, fit dimensions and materials, are the ones that decide whether it leaks on your face.

Our verdict

A $28 one-size training goggle from a brand that has retired the model most people searched for. On paper the 3.0 keeps the low-profile shape and adjustable nose bridge and adds a wider field of view; the listing lists a 380 nm UV figure and an anti-fog tag, and stops there.

A good fit for
A lap swimmer who wants an inexpensive, competition-legal goggle with a choice of smoke, clear, mirrored or prescription lenses from the same mold, and who is fine with a single adult size.
We would skip it if
You need a stated lens or gasket material, a published eye-socket size, interchangeable nose pieces, a written warranty, or a diopter of exactly zero on the optical version.

Reasons to consider it

  • Four lens versions of the same frame at $28 to $34, including a prescription option running from -1.5 to -8.0 diopters
  • Slide-and-lock nose bridge and a double strap, with the frame approved by World Aquatics according to the listing
  • Speedo publishes a UV figure (380 nm) and general care and anti-fog guidance on its site, which is more than many goggle listings offer

The compromises

  • One adult size only; Speedo gives no eye-socket dimensions, so fit has to be judged from the returns policy
  • No materials are named for the lens, gasket or strap, and no warranty statement appears anywhere on the US store
  • The store banner promises 60-day returns while the written policy gives 30 days to register a return and free returns only inside the United States

What we have not verified: Nothing here comes from wearing the goggle. Speedo does not publish the lens material, the gasket material, the strap width, the weight, the country of manufacture, or which of its two anti-fog processes the Vanquisher 3.0 uses. The 14% field-of-view figure is Speedo's comparison against the 2.0 with no test method given. The optical listing's text says 0 to -8.0 while its size selector starts at -1.5. We also could not reach speedousa.com, the domain that used to carry the 2.0; every fact above comes from speedo.com's US storefront.

The things in this guide

A closer look at the products, who they may suit, and what to check before buying.

Speedo Vanquisher 3.0 Goggles · Black / Smoke
Start with the $28 smoke lens

Vanquisher 3.0 Goggles · Black / Smoke

It is the cheapest version, the smoke tint covers both indoor and outdoor pools according to Speedo's lens note, and the 30-day return period is the only fit test on offer.

Before you buy: One size and no published dimensions mean a narrow or wide face may need the Women's or Junior variant instead, and Speedo does not describe how those differ.

The 2.0 has been retired, and the listing says how the 3.0 differs

Speedo's US storefront carries no Vanquisher 2.0 in any lens or size, adult, women's or junior. The only place the old name still appears is inside the 3.0 description, where Speedo claims a 14% larger field of view from what it calls Ocular 360-degree lenses. The same paragraph promises straps that are stronger, flatter and wider than before, and cushioning it describes as an improved fit for both racing and training.

The comparisons arrive without a method. The listing gives no measurement of the old or new field of view, no strap width in millimeters, and no account of what changed in the gasket. Read them as Speedo's description of intent. The parts of the description that can be checked against the collection page are consistent: a low-profile frame meant to sit inside the eye socket, a slide-lock nose bridge, and a double strap. Those are the design facts a 2.0 owner can carry over; everything else is new marketing copy attached to a new mold.

Four lens versions, priced $28 to $34

The black frame with a smoke lens is $28, and Speedo's lens note positions smoke as the general-purpose tint: dark enough for bright outdoor pools, neutral enough not to shift color, usable under floodlights. The clear-lens version costs the same $28 and is aimed at indoor pools and early or late sessions where any tint would cut visibility further. Both carry the same 380 nm UV line in their specifications.

The mirrored version is $32, and Speedo describes the coating as a thin metallic layer that reflects light before it reaches the eye and hides your eyes from other swimmers. The optical version is $34 per pair with both lenses at the same power; the description says diopters from 0 to -8.0, while the size selector actually offered runs from -1.5 to -8.0 in half steps to -6.0, then -7.0 and -8.0. A swimmer who needs plano in one eye and a correction in the other cannot get that from this listing.

One size, a slide-and-lock bridge, and no numbers for your face

The adult goggle is sold as size 1SZ. Adjustment happens at the nose, through what the page names a fully adjustable slide-and-lock nose bridge, and at the double strap. There are no interchangeable nose pieces in the description, no stated range of bridge widths, and no eye-socket dimensions. Speedo's collection page describes the frame as sitting snugly against the eye socket in a streamlined size, which is a shape statement, not a measurement.

Speedo's own care guide supplies the only fit test available: press the goggles to your eyes without the strap and look for slight suction and even pressure. It is a test for a store aisle, not a web page. The store lists separate Women's and Junior Vanquisher 3.0 goggles, but the listings fetched for this review describe no dimensional difference between them and the adult frame. A buyer with a narrow face is guessing between the adult and women's versions, with the return policy as the fallback.

The anti-fog claim is a tag; the UV claim is a number

The specification block on the listing lists UV Protection as 380nm, without a standard or a transmission percentage attached. That wording says the lens is rated to block ultraviolet up to that wavelength; visible light transmission is left to the tint notes, which cover it in prose. Treat the number as a spec label, because no test reference is provided to interpret it further.

Anti-fog appears on the listing only as a tag and a collection filter. Speedo's blog fills in the rest at brand level: every Speedo goggle carries an anti-fog treatment, applied either as a spray on the inside of rigid PC lenses or impregnated into flexible CP lenses, and the sprayed kind can wear away with rubbing and age. The Vanquisher 3.0 listing names neither lens type, so which process applies here is not stated. The practical reading is the same either way: do not touch the inside of the lens, and expect the coating to fade eventually.

Care is documented, returns are documented twice, warranty is not

Speedo's care advice is specific enough to follow: rinse in lukewarm water after each swim, never use soap or detergent because it strips the anti-fog layer, dry flat in the open air, store in the pouch, and keep the lenses out of sunlight because UV degrades them over time. The goggle listing itself repeats none of this, so a buyer has to find the blog. The listing does push a goggle storage case at 30% off with any Vanquisher 3.0, which lines up with the pouch advice.

On returns the store contradicts itself. The banner across the collection page reads Free 60 Day Returns; the written policy gives 30 days from delivery to register a return, free within the United States, items in pristine condition with tags, and no direct exchanges. A faulty item on a final-sale order must be reported within 7 days of delivery. There is no warranty statement for goggles on the listing, the returns page or the collection page. Shipping on a $28 order is $5.99 standard, since free shipping starts at $50.

When to skip the Vanquisher 3.0

Skip it if you were specifically after the Vanquisher 2.0 fit and want the same gasket; Speedo describes the 3.0 as a changed frame, and the old one is not sold by the manufacturer. Skip it if a written warranty matters to you, because the US store offers only a 30-day return and a 7-day faulty-item report, and nothing beyond that. Skip the optical version if you need a zero-diopter lens on one side, since the selector starts at -1.5 and both lenses share one power.

Move on as well if you know your face runs wide or narrow and you cannot try a pair on first. A one-size goggle with no published dimensions and a returns process that requires pristine condition with tags is a poor fit-testing arrangement. The goggle is $28, which limits the damage, and the smoke and clear lenses give an indoor and outdoor option at the same price. Buy it for that, and do not expect the listing to tell you what it is made of.
